Thomas Michael "Tom" Wright (born 22 June 1983) is an award-winning Australian producer, actor, writer, director, and theatre designer. He is the co-founder and director of The Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Firm.
He featured as John Mitcham in Jane Campion's series Top of the Lake (2013) - for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2013 US Critics Choice Awards. He is currently filming the US adaptation of Danish series The Bridge, about the US / Mexican border cities of El Paso and Juarez. He recently completed filming the feature Everest, a film based on the 1996 'Into Thin Air' tragedy for Universal Studios and Working Title Films, opposite John Hawkes, Jason Clarke and Josh Brolin.
He featured as murdered journalist Brian Peters, one of the 'Balibo five' in Robert Connolly's Balibo (2009) and as Thomas Bodenham in the film Van Diemen's Land (film) (2009).
Wright is considered a theatre veteran and has directed and designed productions for Adelaide Festival, Malthouse Theatre, Belvoir St. Theatre, Queensland Theatre Co. and Brisbane Festival, and others - and has played lead roles for The Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company and in 2011 the Sydney Theatre Company production of Baal, directed by Simon Stone.
He founded The Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Firm in 2006 - an award winning independent company.
He was the writer, designer and director of Doku Rai - a co-production with East Timorese companies Liurai Foer (King Bin) and Galaxie. The production was created over three months on the remote island of Atauro off mainland East Timor. Doku Rai has been presented at numerous major international arts festivals. The film sequences in Doku Rai were co-directed with award-winning filmmaker Amiel Courtin-Wilson. Doku Rai played to resounding public and critical acclaim at Darwin Festival, Melbourne Arts House, Adelaide Festival, Brisbane Festival and Sydney Carriageworks. Doku Rai has been named one of the best productions of 2012 and 2013 by Time Out and The Monthly Magazine, and nominated for Best Production of the year at the 2013 Green Room Awards.
He is developing a production with The Encircling Sea.

The story is seen through the eyes of veteran journalist Roger East. A group of transported convicts, suffering brutal treatment at the Sarah Island penal settlement on Van Diemens Land, escape into the Tasmanian wilderness in hopes of reaching the settlements to the east. Their enthusiasm and bravado soon give way to hunger, which saps their strength and causes them to despair. Former urban dwellers, the English, Irish and Scottish convicts realise that not only are they lost, but they do not even know how to hunt or fish. The oppressive nature of landscape becomes the setting for murder, as hunger forces the group to turn to cannibalism, killing and eating the members of the group one by one. The men do all in their power to keep moving, watch their back and avoid sleep, lest they be the next meal.

The film begins with Larry Wilson (Andrew McCarthy) and Richard Parker (Jonathan Silverman), at a Manhattan morgue where they see their deceased CEO Bernie Lomax (Terry Kiser). Chicago DEA agent John Hatcher returns from Colombia, where drug dealers killed his partner Chico. As a result of Chico's death and years of dead end work, John retires and heads to his family's home in suburban Chicago. John and his army buddy Max reunite and celebrate at a bar. A gunfight breaks out between local drug dealers and a Jamaican gang called the Jamaican Posse, whose leader is a drug kingpin known as Screwface.
