Autumn (Turkish: Sonbahar) is drama-genred film by Turkish director Özcan Alper, filmed trilingually in Turkish, Georgian, and Homshetsi Armenian. It was filmed in Hopa, Çamlıhemşin, and Kemalpaşa. It profiles the post-life of a 22-year-old imprisoned university student named Yusuf.

Synopsis

Yusuf, tout juste sorti de la geôle dans laquelle il vient de passer dix ans suite à son combat pour la démocratie en Turquie. Gravement malade, il retourne dans son petit village natal sur les hauteurs de la mer Noire. Là, il ne retrouve que sa vieille mère souffrante, car son père est mort durant son incarcération. Sa sœur, elle, s’est mariée avec un citadin. La représentation de l’hostilité du milieu dans lequel erre Yusuf nous fait vite comprendre que son retour dans le nord de la Turquie ne s’avère être qu’une autre forme d’emprisonnement.

Sumru fait des recherches musicales dans une université d'Istanbul. 'Saudamini' (Shabana Azmi) is a bright village girl with academic ambitions and an appetite for literature and philosophy. Her intellectual uncle (Utpal Dutt) indulges her brainy bent, encouraging her studies and running interference between Mini and her mother (Sudha Shivpuri), a pious widow whose only concern is to see Mini married, and quickly. Mini has a nascent love affair with her neighbor Narendra (Vikram), the zamindar's son, a student in Calcutta who on his frequent visits brings her Victorian literature, listens raptly to her discourse, and is bold enough to kiss her opportunistically when they are caught together in a rainstorm. Circumstances conspire against Mini and Narendra, though, and soon Mini finds herself married against her wishes to a wheat trader 'Ghanshyam' (Girish Karnad) from a neighboring village. Plunged into despair, Mini struggles to become accustomed to life in her unwanted marriage and her new home, where Ganshyam's stepmother seems to favor Mini's sisters-in-law and where her new husband treats her with a patience that she finds perplexing.

Renouncing her sinful past Emanuelle (Laura Gemser) moves into a convent and becomes a nun, dedicating her life to religion and rejecting sin. Monika (Mónica Zanchi) a free-spirited daughter of a rich Baron joins the convent. She tells one sister how she was sexually assaulted by a group of young men (from a flashback sequence we learn that she actually consented and encourages them to make advances at her by revealing her breasts); this gains her sympathy from her fellow sisters. Monika has sex and performs various sex acts with various men in and around the convent. Various nuns witness this causing them to question their faith and break their repression. Monika has a sexual relationship with another sister and blackmails her (by refusing sex) if she does not comply with her demands. Later a mysterious man, armed with a gun visits the convent. He has sex with Monika; witnessed by most nuns in the convent. Monika is later dismissed. Emanuelle later leaves at her own free-will.

Bruno Stroszek (Bruno S.) is a Berlin street performer. Released from prison and warned to stop drinking, he immediately goes to a familiar bar where he comforts Eva (Eva Mattes), a prostitute down on her luck, and lets her stay with him at the apartment his landlord kept for him. The plot concerns the black-clad Legion of the Winged Serpent, a rogue group of human-like telepathic aliens led by Captain Rameses (Christopher Lee).
