Gowramma is a 2005 Kannada romantic comedy film starring Upendra and Ramya in the lead roles. The film was directed by Naganna' and produced by Shailendra Babu. It is the third among a series of successful films under Upendra - Naganna combination. The film also starred Srinivasa Murthy, Doddanna, Ramesh Bhat, Komal, Sadhu Kokila, and Satyajit in supporting roles. A huge success at the box office, Gowramma was one of the highest grossing Kannada films of 2005.

Datta (Darshan) & his friend Tingu (Komal) are small time thieves. They get in the wrong books of drug peddler Basha. During one of their thefts, datta sees ramya and falls for her. Julie (Ramya) is a young Christian woman who finds herself pregnant after giving into a night of passion with Shashi (Dino Morea), a Hindu follower and her childhood sweetheart. Faced with the choice of abortion or carrying the child to term, Julie chooses to keep the pregnancy a secret from Shashi and goes to a convent, where she will deliver the child and put it up for adoption. Afterwards Julie returns home in the hopes that Shashi will marry her now that she does not have a baby, as she thought that he would not have shown an interest in her otherwise. Despite her well-laid plans, Julie finds that things aren't so simple as that. Not only does her brother want her to move to England, but she also meets Richard, a man who doesn't care that she has had a baby out of wedlock. Ultimately Julie manages to reconcile with Shashi and live happily ever after.

The movie begins with two young kids who fight each other in a marriage hall. They meet after two decades, now Krishna (Prasanna) and Ramya (Laila) during a college cultural meet and again lock horns with each other. Fate brings them together in Chennai after a few years, again fighting with each other. Meanwhile, a series of events forces Krishna's close friend Aravindh (Karthik Kumar) to come to India from the USA to get married. His parents arrange his wedding with Ramya. Ramya, who decides to get married to help her younger sister's love, displays herself as a passive character who accepts whatever the life partner feel is right. On the contrary, she is bold, active, independent and assertive in nature. Knowing this, Krishna tries hard to let her true character come out. However, Aravindh stalls the wedding plans and returns to the USA as he finds Ramya as a person who does not think on her own and not independent. Mistaking Krishna for influencing Aravindh, Ramya locks horns with him.
