Synopsis

Selva (Vijay) lives in a colony. He is the son of lawyer Varatharajan(Raghuvaran) but he lives separately. Sangeetha is one of the girls in the colony. Meanwhile a minister's daughter moves into the colony. She moves friendly with Selva. Sumathi(Swathi) who is in love with Selva mistakes their friendship. Vartharajan works for a terrorist group who kidnaps the minister's daughter. Selva goes to the rescue of the girl. However, Selva kills his father because Varatharajan was going to kill Sumathi. Finally they will come against out of the clutch of the terrorists.

Professor Ilango comes to his native village near Theni, with his college going daughter, Charulatha (Mamta Mohandas). He has taken voluntary retirement from his college service and has come to live in his ancestral house. He plans to do research on folk songs and release a collection as a book. His student Sathiyamurthy (Vishal) assists him in this venture. Charulatha falls for Sathiya, on keenly observing his intellect, humaneness and social awareness. Meanwhile elections are announced to the State Legislature and the parties start finalizing the candidates for the constituencies. When the candidates start filing nominations, the dreadful things happen. Some candidates from both the major parties are murdered and all the candidates get jittery. Lot of candidates withdraw from the fray fearing death. The parties are in a fix on what to do. The Police are on the trace out for the killer. The Election Commission postpones the elections.

Gokulan Krishnan (Vijay) is a music loving man who begins the movie with a dream where he sees his dream girl. The only Trademark he remembers from it is a mole which is situated next to her navel(bellybutton). He then becomes determined in looking for his 'dream girl' with the help of his uncle (Mannivannan) and brother in laws. On the other hand, his father arranges him to get married to a village girl Savithri (Devayani) which Gokulan (often referred to as 'Mapillai') objects to, but Savithri loves him. Gokulan later sees his dream girl Swapna (Rambha) at a wedding where he spot the mole on her navel. He then sings to her impressing her but she leaves abruptly. He later sees her at a music class which he teaches and from then on they love each other. Gokulan tries to stop the marriage with Savithri in many failed attempts due to everyone in Savithri's family getting the wrong impression. Swapna then arrives to Savithri's village and is revealed that they are sisters. Neither of them knew that they love the same man.

They decide to return home, relinquishing their feelings, and the families are happy and take them back. Jeeva’s Mom wants to see Mini so that she can get a better wife for his son goes to meet Mini. Initially reluctant to welcome them, the brothers hesitate, but their mother is welcomes them, ultimately their families accept their love, and they are reunited.
