It was produced at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow and is based on the story of the same name by Kir Bulychov. Compared to the book the story was significantly shortened.
Synopsis
The astronauts from the planet Geda fly to India on a symposium on animal protection of the Galaxy. As a result of a technical malfunction one of them finds himself in a scout's camp situated near Moscow, transformed into a tiger. By means of July and her grandmother, the astronaut manages to reach India.Actors

As part of an expedition from Earth on the ship "Pegas", Captain Zelyonyy, Professor Seleznyov and his daughter Alice Selezneva search for new animal species for Moscow Zoo. On the advice of the archeologist Gromozeka they look for with the help of doctor Verkhovtsev, the director of the museum of Two Captains, but the doctor behaves suspiciously: doesn't show them diaries of captains and starts spying on the expedition. On the planet Blukthey make some valuable purchases, among them a Chatterer — the bird belonging to the missing captain Kim. A suspicious fat man, Merry Fellow U, tries to steal a bird. Having listened to the speech of the Chatterer, the crew of "Pegas" heads for system of the Jellyfish. The film centres on a girl who wants a dog. She brings home a puppy but her mother wouldn't let the puppy stay. The girl is upset and goes outside to the playground where all the other kids are walking their dogs. She starts playing with her mitten, pretending that the mitten is a dog. And the power of her imagination turns her mitten into a knitted puppy, which keeps the mitten red color and black spots on the back. The puppy starts chasing a cat which ends up finding shelter on top of the ad board saying "Everyone who has a dog is welcome to take part in the kennel club competition!" The girl takes her puppy to the competition and it completes the task better than other dogs but on the way to the finish one of the threads of puppy's knitted coat gets caught by a nail on the wooden barrier and it loses the competition. The girl takes it home and is about to feed it, when it turns back to a mitten. Mom notices the girl trying to feed a mitten and decides to get her a real puppy.

La plaine russe probablement défoncée par la raspoutitsa. Trois des fils Karabassoff vident une bouteille de vodka tandis que le quatrième ronfle, allongé devant eux, serrant dans ses mains une autre bouteille du précieux liquide. Surgit un avion américain d'aide humanitaire qui largue de nombreux colis qui sont aussitôt récupérés par les trois frères; pour le quatrième il ne reste qu'un sac confectionné avec la bannière étoilée étiqueté Woolmark. Il en extrait un chat ! De dépit il le "balance" dans la boue mais comme il n'a rien d'autre, il finit par le récupérer. Ils se présentent et Cat lui propose de le faire émigrer aux États-Unis par voie aérienne car le chat maintenant chaussé de bottes russes se sert de sa queue pour se transformer en hélicoptère (Ah ! la technologie yankee vue par les russes). Le jeune homme ne se fait pas prier et après avoir récupéré sa bouteille de vodka, sa balalaïka, mis une poignée de terre russe dans sa poche et essuyé une larme, il s'envole pour le nouveau monde.

The 'Stalker' (Alexander Kaidanovsky) works in some unclear area in the indefinite future as a guide who leads people through the 'Zone', a vicinity in which the normal laws of reality no longer fully apply. The Zone contains a place called the 'Room', said to grant the wishes of anyone who steps inside. The area containing the Zone is sealed off by the government and great hazards exist within it. At home with his wife and daughter, the Stalker's wife (Alisa Freindlich) begs him not to go into the Zone but he ignores her pleas. In a rundown bar, the Stalker meets his next clients for a trip into the Zone. The 'Writer' (Anatoly Solonitsyn) and the 'Professor' (Nikolai Grinko) agree to put their fate into the hands of the Stalker. Their specific names do not come up as they all agree to refer to each other pseudo-anonymously by just their professions.
