Synopsis
The story revolves around Puli (Sundar C) who is a local rowdy and the son of a math teacher (Prakash Raj). Prakash Raj hates his son for being a rowdy and for not being proficient in Mathematics. The story revolves around the ego clash between dad and son. As part of a flashback it is shown that young Puli was very good in Physics but being a Math teacher his father wanted him to excel in Math which he was unable to do so. As a result of repeated physical and mental abuse the young boy takes up the wrong route to grow up. In the mean time, rival gangs and police try to kill Puli but is accidentally saved by his half-sister, a daughter from an affair that Prakash Raj had.Actors

Vetrivel is a person who lives as a temporary driver in Rishikeh, Uttranchal. Annamalai is the owner of Annamalai Transports but not the building-cum-residence of the transports and the staff. He is very innocent and funny. Vivek always arranges a marriage bride for himself but in one way or another Sundhar C. will stop the marriage. Anjali is an ardent fan of MGR and she feels her husband should also be like him. She is the very beautiful and attractive daughter of the Annamalai Transport building owner and she comes to Rishikesh to check the building's condition and to collect the yearly rent. She meets Sundhar C. and falls in love. Sundhar C. also falls in love with Anjali and reveals his past to her. Sundar C. was a highly accomplished district collector and was transferred to Tanjore. He gets himself in a cat-and-mouse chase with local goon Naachiyaar. Naachiyaar's son kidnaps Sundhar C.'s friend's sister who was engaged to another man & tries to rape her. But Sundhar C. comes in and saves the girl and destroys Naachiyaar's son's reproductive capacity. Naachiyaar's son dies in hospital. The marriage of the girl happens happily. Naachiyaar kills Sundhar C.'s friend brutally for revenge. Then the governor comes to Tanjore and CBCID informs that an attempt will be made on governor's life at a Tanjore meeting. Sundhar C. is told to protect the governor as he trained for IPS first and was an excellent shooter. But the governor is killed and Sundhar C. is framed by the DGP himself. The rest of the film shows how Sundhar C. proves himself (he does) and again stops another marriage of Vivek after returning to being a collector.

The film begins in Nallur, a small village in Thoothukudi district in southern Tamil Nadu. Duraisingam (Suriya), is the honest police sub inspector of Nallur, assisted by his bumbling colleague Erimalai (Vivek). He belongs to Nallur with his father having a respectable status in the village. His family business is provision stores and Duraisingam wants to join it, but he joined police due to his father's wishes. He resolves most of the problems in his village with non-violence and mutual counselling. He uses force only when the situation demands it, thereby gaining much reputation and love from the villagers. Nadaraj (Livingston) is an honest, not-too-good-looking, village artist who comes to the city to find a job. He ends up being a banner artist. Shwetha (Kousalya) is a U.S. citizen, who loves India and its culture and stays with her relatives to learn bharatanatiyam. She is a soft-natured, loving girl who loves to help people in distress but cannot stand it if anyone lies or cheats. Initially when these two meet, she mistakes Nadaraj to be a mute and pities him. Shwetha's occasional friendlier association with Nadaraj, in the means of helping, gradually blossoms into love. By this time, it is too late for the guilt-ridden Nadaraj to disclose the truth as he feared the risk of losing her. Despite all his efforts to reveal the truth, Shwetha comes to know of his sham by herself. However at the end she realises Nadaraj's true intentions for acting as a mute and forgives him. However at the climax, when Shwetha asks Nadaraj to speak to her, he keeps silent because he had asked a doctor to cut his tongue so that he could be the Nadaraj Swetha had come to love.

Rasu (Santhanam) and Mokkai ('Ganja' Karuppu) are youngsters sharing a hostel with a diverse group of people including a professor (Madan Bob), a staunch atheist (Rajesh), a poet and other unemployed, struggling men. Rasu, who works in a coffee shop, is in love with Mahishasuramardhini (Madhumita), but she seemingly ignores all his advances. Rasu was even attacked by her brother after hanging around her house for extended periods of time. Mokkai, who is unemployed due to his lack of education, and does whatever job he can find, dreams of marrying his uncle's daughter back in his village. After a particularly bad day where Mokkai is arrested and beaten by female police officers, Rasu's lies of being in a well-paid job are uncovered (to the disgust of Mahishasuramardhini), the two are also kicked out of the hostel by the owner due to the inability to pay rent. On their last night, both vent their frustration at God after heavy drinking. Both are shocked when GOD(Prakashraj) appears in front of them. Mistaking Him for another unemployed fellow, the two head back to their hostel room only to find God waiting for them in it, waving aside this miracle, all three fall asleep. The next morning, God finally manages to convince Rasu and Mokkai of his true identity after appearing in the forms of Vishnu, Jesus and the Buddha.

His sister and mother though of getting him married, but he didn't want to because of the lack of his handsome. That day he was very furious and got into many fights such as the neighbor will call him to feed her child. That very day his mother was in the hospital, she needed an operation. His mother said don't spend the money for his surgery for her. But she still took out the money for her surgery, but the mother died so soon. With the money now he decides to give it to his sister for an auto. In the end he decides to love Kani who is his neighbor.
