Yerra Mandaram is a 1991 Telugu film, directed by Muthyala Subbhaiah with music composed by K. Chakravarthy. Rajendra Prasad and Yamuna played the male and female lead respectively. The entire movie was shot in a remote village. The film was remade in Kannada as Balarama (2004) with BC Patil.
Synopsis
Rajendra Prasad plays an uneducated and innocent person working in a theatre. Yamuna loves Rajendra Prasad and is married to him. Due to reservation system provided by the Government for the post of Panchayat President, Rajendra Prasad is elected as the President of Gram panchayat by the village people under the head of a landlord. The landlord later reveals his intention of selecting Rajendra Prasad as president as he is innocent and can be made puppet in his hands. Rajendra Prasad wants to reform his village but is left helpless as he lacks courage. Later one day he feels ashamed of himself for being so powerless and unable to stop the crimes committed by the Landlord. He revolts back which results in his arrest with false accusations and is killed by the Landlord's men after he returns from the police station. The police take the Landlord's side and close the case reporting that the person killed was someone other than Rajendra Prasad. The landlord is then murdered by Yamuna and her son, both of whom allege the murder was committed by Rajendra Prasad who is still said to be alive by the police. The movie ends with Yamuna and her son walking free.Actors

The film opens into the life of Appala Narsaih (Gollapudi Maruthi Rao), an ordinary middle-class man who makes a simple living as a Central Government clerk. His family, a typical South Indian joint family, includes his dutiful wife Godavari, his oldest son Prakash (Sarath Babu), a junior officer at Indian Oil, and his wife Uma (Suhasini), his second son Ragava (Rejendra Prasad), a factory worker, his youngest son Bharath (a never do good fellow who has failed his high school exams twice) and his daughter Sarojini (Kalpana). The modest income from his government job barely provides for his family's needs. His sons contribute some amounts in proportion to their incomes. The family gets by, but Appala Narsaih worries for the future. Prakash and Sarojini are not yet married, and Bharathi has a bleak future if he does not graduate high school. Sarojini is a particular worry; her beauty and charm are matched by her arrogance and contempt. She summarily rejects any marriage proposal, and her obstinate demeanor causes great concern to Appala Narsaih. Appala Narsaih nonetheless plows on through life hoping for solutions to his difficulties.

Appa Rao (Rajendra Prasad) is a bachelor who manages every day by living off the loans he takes from others. He manages to coerce the local MLA Nadendla Anjaiah (Babu Mohan) into promising for repaying his debts in exchange for the votes in Anjaiah's favor from the debtors of Appa Rao. One night, he meets a lady constable Subba Lakshmi (Shobana) who slaps him for trying to protect some rowdies who tried to molest her. They meet again and spar with each other, this time over a lottery ticket for Rs. 10 lakhs, and end up tearing the ticket. The seller (Ali) refuses to take it back instead advises them to keep the two halves with them so that if they win the lottery they could share the prize money. As luck would have it, their ticket wins the lottery and Appa Rao fakes a story about his family troubles to retrieve the other half of the ticket from Subba Lakshmi. Though aware of the pretense of Appa Rao, she donates the other half as she comes to know that the ticket didn't win the lottery and it was mistakenly printed in the newspaper earlier. Appa Rao later realises the same and confronts her, but she tells him that she sacrificed her ticket as she believed his story. As a result, Appa Rao falls in love with her and overcome by emotion, tries to kiss her, but she slaps him for the second time. Subba Lakshmi also falls in love with Appa Rao.

The film starts with a shabby old man living as a recluse near a famous temple. When he ventures out into the village, he is beaten by the shepherds who believes that he is a thief. Chandu (Nagarjuna) and Suri (Rajendra Prasad) are pilots and thick friends. Indu (Raveena Tandon) and Padma (Kasthuri) are very good friends. Chandu gets married to Indu and Suri marries Padma. Indu and Padma become pregnant.Indu meets with a car accident and she becomes infertile. Padma gives birth to twins, Ram and Lakshman. Indu and Chandu adopt Ram. After three years, Lakshman is infected by cancer. He needs to undergo bone marrow transplantation. Indu refuses and flees with Ram to Delhi fearing that Chandu will force her to send Ram for operation. Later on, she realizes her mistake and boards a flight to return to her husband so that Ram can be operated upon. Pakistani militants hijack the flight and they divert the flight's route. Lakshman is on his death-bed. How Chandu rescues the flight's passengers and puts an end to the story forms the climax.
