The film begins with a man (Karthik) who tried to kill Lakshmi (Ambika), but he missed his attempt and killed her aunt. While escaping, he met an accident and forgot everything. Since, Lakshmi, a doctor, took care of him. She didn't know about him and she named him Kannan. Inspector Sarath (R. Sarathkumar) investigated on the Lakshmi's aunt murder and Kannan's past. Sarath found a photo with Kannan and Lakshmi, he went at the photo's store to know the truth. A third person was involved in this affair. Sarath found him and the man revealed the truth. The man, Ravi, was in love with Vani (Kutty Padmini). Her father arranged a marriage to Vani. So Ravi did some photo-trick. He produced a photo showing Vani's fiancé with a woman in wedding attire, the woman's photo was taken from a marriage mediator. The marriage was cancelled, Ravi and Vani got married. The inspector went to Vani's fiancé house, met his uncle who revealed that Raja disappeared and he told the facts. Raja was a son of a pious small family. He is working in a company in another town. A family came, saw Raja's sister and agreed to marry her. To pay the bride price, Raja accepted to marry Vani. A photo somehow came to the knowledge of Raja's sister's groom side and they stopped the marriage proposal. Raja's mother and sister committed suicide thinking that Raja has backstabbed them by marrying a woman. Raja came home, saw his family dead and got angry on the woman on the photo with him.

The story begins with Arjun (Sathyaraj) being arrested for multiple crimes. In the past, Arjun was a happy-go-lucky young man. His brother (Delhi Ganesh), a factory's union leader, clashed with his superiors (M. N. Nambiar, Malaysia Vasudevan and Chitra Lakshmanan) for bonus. In the meantime, Arjun fell in love with Radha (Radha). To help the labourer, Arjun cheated the factory's owners as a fake income tax officer, he managed to take all their black money and he gave it to the labourers. Later, Arjun's brother, sister-in-law and his niece were killed. In anger, he tried to kill the culprit and failed. Siva Prasad (Captain Raju), Radha's brother, advised him to surrender but, as an innocent, he refused. However, Siva Prasad arrested him in surprise. Arjun was tortured and his head was shaved. Therefore, a bald Arjun comes to the court. Despite everything was against Arjun, the judge Ram Prakash (Sivaji Ganesan) feels that he is innocent. So Ram Prakash sentences that Arjun will be under house arrest in his isolated island. Along with Ram Prakash how Arjun kills the culprits forms the rest of the story.

Ram Kumar Sharma is a sickly person living in Lucknow in a large family. He suffers from asthma and does not like the behavior of his autocratic father but is deeply attached to his loving mother. Unable to get along with his father who compels him to marry a girl of his choice, the protagonist leaves for Chennai. He finds a job there and meets Seetha (Ashwini), whom he eventually marries. Once settled, he goes around looking for a house with the help of house broker - Kumari Muthu. Incidentally, he finds Seetha residing as a tenant in a portion under the very same house. He likes the portion and agrees to start living there.

Manju (Sripriya) was raised in a dysfunctional family that consisted of a timid father and a philandering mother; she hurtles from one disastrous affair to another, leading to her degenerating into a cynical woman.
