The movie was filmed in real time similar to Robert Wise's noir boxing film The Set-Up (1949). It also tracks as a continuous take with no cuts, rather like Alfred Hitchcock's Rope (1948). For aesthetic and practical reasons, Becker opted for black & white, offering a neo-Noir feel and giving him fewer problems in scene transitions.
Synopsis
A prison inmate (Campbell) receives early release only to immediately rejoin his former criminal comrades in a heist. In the hour or so he rekindles a romance with an old flame (Barone) and realizes the "good ol' days" with his partner in crime (Roberts) just might not have been so good.Actors

An armed gunman causes a hostage situation at a Los Angeles grocery store. When negotiations between him and the law fail, Marion Cobretti (codenamed "Cobra"), a member of an elite division of the Los Angeles Police Department known as the "Zombie Squad", is summoned to the scene. Cobretti infiltrates the store, locates, and negotiates with him. During the negotiation, the criminal speaks of the unknown "New Order", a group of social darwinist radicals that despise modern society and believe in killing the weak, leaving only the strongest and smartest to rule the world. Cobretti then kills the gunman by throwing a knife at his abdomen and firing shots at him.

Scientist Dr. Peyton Westlake is developing a new type of synthetic skin to help acid-burn victims. He is frustrated with a flaw that causes the skin to rapidly disintegrate after 99 minutes. In New York City, a waitress on her way home is assaulted by two muggers and seeks aid from a police officer, who breaks her neck.
