Professional photographers Vinod Chopra(Naseeruddin Shah) and Sudhir Mishra (Ravi Baswani) open a photo studio in the prestigious Haji Ali area in Mumbai, and hope to make enough money to keep it running. After a disastrous start, they are given some work by the editor of "Khabardar", a publication that exposes the scandalous lives of the rich and the famous. They accept it and start working with the editor, Shobha Sen (Bhakti Barve), on a story exposing the dealings between an unscrupulous builder, Tarneja (Pankaj Kapoor), and corrupt Municipal Commissioner D'Mello (Satish Shah). During their investigation, they find out that another builder Ahuja (Om Puri) too is involved in this dealing.

Edward Morrison vient d'Amérique du Sud à Londres, pour rendre visite à sa sœur Alice. Mais arrivée chez elle, il trouve une nouvelle locataire, Janet Winters. Elle lui apprend qu'Alice s'est suicidée en se jetant sous un camion. Morrison l'interroge ainsi que des témoins. Le principal témoin oculaire, Sam Hotkins, pense qu'elle a été assassinée. En discutant avec Harry Brenton, son ancien fiancé, Morrisson se fait une meilleure idée. la piste le mène à un bar où il rencontre entre autres, la barmaid Myrna Collins, le propriétaire du bar Gaston, les employés Dan Low et John Evans. Tout le monde semble suspect, une tentative d'assassinat de Dan Low contre Morrison le confirme. Janet Winters est danseuse dans cet établissement, Morrison l'interroge chez elle sans rien apprendre. Morrison, qui est soutenue par Mary, la fille de Sam Hotkins, découvre le corps de Winters assassinée. Soudain le téléphone sonne. Alice dit être à l'autre bout du fil, dans une maison de campagne, elle ne peut pas en dire plus. Avec la police et l'inspecteur Brown, Morrison et Mary Hotkins pensent avoir trouvé cette maison et y rencontrent David Stone. Morrison soupçonne que son épouse Edna a quelque chose à voir avec l'affaire. Elle tient une école de danse dans laquelle Alice a pris des cours. Morrisson part pour Paris, car David Stone est mort au moulin de Garascon. Il y croise de nouveau la bande d'Evans. Encore une fois, il échappe de justesse à une tentative d'assassinat. Après la dénonciation de Donald Rutley, l'oncle de Janet Winters, Morrisson peut finalement découvrir toute la vérité.

Friends Kesavan (Ashok Selvan), Sekar (RJ Ramesh Thilak) and Pagalavan (Bobby Simha) meet Das (Vijay Sethupathi), a middle-aged man with an imaginary girlfriend named Shalu (Sanchita Shetty) who does low-profile kidnappings for a living. Broke, the trio decide to become his assistants. Das follows a Five Rules of kidnapping (which Das spells and writes as "kednapping"), which makes kidnapping easier to do. One day, they kidnap a young boy and successfully obtain ransom money from his father Nambikkai Kannan. Nambikkai's contractor brother has been arrested for attempted bribery by State Minister Gnanodayam (M S Bhaskar), a disciplined politician who plays by the book. Impressed with Das' kidnapping skills, Nambikkai asks him to kidnap the minister's son Arumai Pragasam (Karunakaran) as revenge and offers to pay Das up to ₹2 crore (US$300 000).

The film begins at 62 West Wallaby Street on Gromit's birthday at breakfast. After being tipped out of bed and dressed using several mechanical contraptions, Wallace is greeted with a large pile of bills. Wallace remembers Gromit's birthday and presents Gromit with a somewhat unwelcome gift of a spiked dog collar, and a second present of a pair of ex-NASA robotic "Techno Trousers", acquired by Wallace to alleviate the burden of taking Gromit for walks. While Gromit is out on a "walk", Wallace realizes they are in financial difficulty and decides to let the spare bedroom out. He is answered by an inscrutable-looking penguin named Feathers McGraw. The penguin comes to stay at the house, pushing Gromit out of his comfortable bedroom and keeping him awake at night with loud music. On the other hand, Wallace takes a liking to him. Feathers also takes an interest in the Techno Trousers after seeing Gromit use their suction feet to walk on the ceiling.

The boss of a black market ring (known only as "The Chief") wants to smuggle a batch of jewelry from a foreign state into the Soviet Union by hiding it inside the orthopedic cast of a courier. The Chief sends a minor henchman named Gennadiy Kozodoyev (played by Mironov) to serve as the courier. Kozodoyev travels to Istanbul via a tourist cruise ship. The Turkish co-conspirators do not know what the courier looks like; they only know that he is supposed to say a code word to identify himself. Due to a mix-up, they mistake Kozodoyev's fellow passenger from the cruise ship, the "ordinary Soviet citizen" Semyon Gorbunkov (played by Nikulin) for the courier. They place a cast around his arm and put the contraband jewels inside the cast. Upon the cruise ship's return to the Soviet Union, Gorbunkov lets the police know what happened, and the police captain, who is working undercover as a taxi driver, uses Gorbunkov as bait to catch the criminals. Most of the plot are various attempts of The Chief's inept henchmen, Kozodoyev and Lyolik (played by Papanov), to lure Gorbunkov into a situation where they can quietly, without a wet job, remove the cast and reclaim the contraband jewels. In the meantime, Gorbunkov's wife begins to suspect that he has either been recruited by foreign intelligence, or is having an affair.

The story is narrated through flashbacks. Velu (Sri), a teenager, works in a roadside shop. He meets Jyothi (Urmila Mahanta), who is a maidservant at a few of the nearby apartments. As luck would have it, Aarthy falls for him without knowing his true intentions. Dinesh too is attracted to Aarthy. He seizes the opportunity and shoots video clips of her private moments on his mobile phone and even circulates them among his friends via MMS. When Aarthy finds out, she is aghast and threatens to approach the police. An angry Dinesh tries to murder Aarthy, but Jyothi intervenes accidentally and saves her. She sustains serious injuries in the process. The movie picks up speed as the corrupt Police Inspector Kumaravel (Muthuraman) begins investigations.
