Frank Campeau (December 14, 1864 – November 5, 1943) was an American actor. He appeared in 93 films between 1911 and 1940 and made many appearances in films starring Douglas Fairbanks. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles.

Biography

Frank Campeau entame sa carrière d'acteur au théâtre et joue notamment à Broadway (New York) dans quatre pièces, la première en 1904, la dernière en 1916. Entretemps, mentionnons Believe Me, Xantippe en 1913, avec John Barrymore, Henry Hull, Theodore Roberts et Mary Young.

Au cinéma, il contribue à quatre-vingt-quinze films américains (y compris trente-neuf westerns), dont une soixantaine muets, le premier étant le court métrage Kit Carson's Wooing de Francis Boggs, avec Jack Conway, sorti en 1911.

En particulier, il apparaît dans trois films muets de John Ford, Le Pionnier de la baie d'Hudson (1923, avec Tom Mix et Kathleen Key), La Tornade (1923, avec David Butler et Gladys Hulette) et Trois sublimes canailles (1926, avec George O'Brien et Olive Borden).

Autre fait notable, il collabore à quinze films muets ayant pour vedette Douglas Fairbanks, sortis de 1916 à 1921, dont A Modern Musketeer d'Allan Dwan (1917) et His Majesty, the American de Joseph Henabery (1919), tous deux avec également Marjorie Daw.

The story takes place towards the end of the first World War. Georgie Wilson is gambling with some friends. When one of them accuses him of cheating they get into a fight. When Wilson sees his opponent fall down the stairs he assumes he has died. He escapes with his friend, Tim, before the police arrive by joining a parade of men who are enlisting for the army. They end up joining together as Tim made his mind up that he wants to join the Army. They get into trouble with their captain on numerous occasions, leading him to punish them numerous times by making them stable cleaners. When they are stationed at the German town of Koblenz, Wilson meets and falls in love with Gretchen Rittner, daughter of an innkeeper. He is unable to propose marriage to her, however, with a murder charging hanging over his head. Eventually, the man he thought he murdered turns up and this allows Wilson to finally marry Gretchen.

Joe Lane, radio entertainer and songwriter, learns that the manager of the studio, Arthur Phillips, has made improper advances to his wife, Katherine. In 1895, champion horse racer and livery stable owner Hank Armstrong (Russell Simpson) is greatly disturbed by the advent of the "horseless carriage" in Maple City. He mocks Elmer Hays, a car manufacturer, when he states in a public lecture that the days of the horse are numbered and that a car will one day go 30 miles an hour. However, Armstrong's efforts are in vain.
