John McDonnell is a film producer based in Dublin, Ireland. Together with Brendan McCarthy, McDonnell runs the Oscar-winning production company Fantastic Films (Ireland)

McDonnell is one of Ireland most experienced producers. In 2000, he founded Fantastic Films (Ireland) and since the company's inception McDonnell has produced and collaborated on a diverse range of film projects, receiving over 60 international awards, including an Oscar™ in 2006 for Martin McDonagh short film, Six Shooter (film).

Recent films include The Last Days on Mars (2013), the debut feature film from Oscar-nominated Irish director Ruairí Robinson, selected for Directors' Fortnight at Cannes Film Festival, 2013; the award-winning comedy-horror Stitches (movie) 2012, directed by Conor McMahon and starring Ross Noble and Tommy Knight, the Bollywood hit Ek Tha Tiger 2012, directed by Kabir Khan (director) and starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, the critically acclaimed Hammer Horror Wake Wood 2011, directed by David Keating and starring Timothy Spall, Aidan Gillen and Eva Birthistle and Outcast (2010 film) directed by Colm McCarthy (director) and starring James Nesbitt, Kate Dickie and fellow Scottish actress Hannah Stanbridge, who received a Scottish BAFTA for her role in the film.

McDonnell recently executive produced the Sundance Film Festival awarding-winning documentary THE SUMMIT, written by Mark Monroe and directed by Nick Ryan and beActive Media's BEAT GIRL a transmedia series, available on several platforms, including TV, the web, smart phone app, a novel and now a feature film.

Nominated as Irish “Producer on the Move” in Cannes 2006., McDonnell is an active participant in the ACE Producers Network, a founding member of the Irish Film and Television Academy, a regular juror for the Irish Film and Television Awards and a recent participant on the prestigious producer course Inside Pictures.

In 2008, McDonnell received his Hons MA in Screenwriting from Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology and regularly designs courses for Screen Training Ireland. He has also lectured in Film at Trinity College, Dublin and DLIADT, Dublin.

In the 2040s, a Martian research base, Tantalus Base outpost, is created. The eight person crew, who have been stationed there for six months, are only nineteen hours from the completion of their research mission. The spacecraft Aurora is inbound from Earth and will collect the team by lander from a prearranged site. Mars scientist Marko Petrović has found samples that may point to life on the planet. Without revealing his discovery, he devises a ruse for one last sojourn on the surface. Crewmate Richard Harrington drives Petrović in a solar powered rover to the spot where he had found the sample. After he obtains soil with the biological agent present, a fissure swallows Petrović.

The disaster occurred between 1 and 2 August 2008 and cost 11 lives. During the ascent of the summit a climber falls to his death in the Bottleneck. When three climbers try to collect the body one of them also falls to his death. These occurrences lead to a delay in the summit attempt that strands several climbers for the night above the Bottleneck, in the "deathzone" (above 8000 meters), due to a serac fall killing one more climber. The documentary takes a closer look at the more unknown happenings during the night and the next day leading to another eight deaths.

The Large Hadron Collider research at CERN was on the verge of a breakthrough in regards to black holes. Scientists believed that they would be able to control the micro black holes once created but Peter Ansay, a young genius in quantum physics thought differently. His report brought up astounding conclusions that the current research on the radiation phenomenon was inaccurate and that if they were actually able to create these black holes, the level of radiation would be so significantly lower than anticipated that they would literally implode in on themselves, taking all surrounding matter with them.

Little Alice Daley is mauled to death by a German Shepherd dog in the yard of her father Patrick's veterinary practice.
