Josh Waitzkin's family discovers that he possesses a gift for chess and they seek to nurture it. They hire a strict instructor, Bruce Pandolfini (played by Ben Kingsley) who aims to teach the boy to be as aggressive as chess legend Bobby Fischer. The title of the film is a metaphor about the character's quest to adopt the ideal of Fischer and his determination to win at any price. Josh is also heavily influenced by Vinnie, a speed chess hustler (Laurence Fishburne) whom he met in Washington Square Park. The two coaches differ greatly in their approaches to chess, and Pandolfini is upset that Josh continues to adopt the methods of Vinnie. The main conflict in the film arises when Josh refuses to accept Fischer's misanthropic frame of reference. Josh then goes on to win on his own terms., 1h27

Mary Lennox (Kate Maberly) is the neglected, unloved child of a wealthy English couple living in India during the late 19th century. Her mother and father never wanted her and only care about themselves. One night during one of their frequent parties, Mary can be seen hiding in her mother's bedroom under the bed, as her mother unexpectedly returned. Her father follows her mother, whereupon Mary really sees how much they care about one another. Continuing in her narrative, she tells us that her parents always think of themselves, never about her, and that, if only she'd known that in a few minutes she'd lose them forever. Ultimately, an earthquake occurs and both of Mary’s parents are killed in the destruction., 53minutes

Hated includes concert and rehearsal footage as well as interviews with Allin, fellow bandmembers, friends, detractors and dedicated fans. Later, Allin discusses the earliest years of his childhood in rural New Hampshire, and how his father tried to encourage his family to assist him in a mass suicide. Footage of his controversial performances include a violent confrontation with audience members at a spoken word appearance at New York University (where director Phillips was a student), as well as scenes of Allin defecating during shows, mutilating himself and assaulting concertgoers at a rock club in East Village, Manhattan.
