Frontier Marshal is a 1934 American Pre-Code Western film directed by Lewis Seiler and starring George O'Brien. Produced by Fox Film and Sol M. Wurtzel, the film is the first based on Stuart N. Lake's enormously popular but largely fictitious "biography" of Wyatt Earp, Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal. A second version of the film, also produced by Wurtzel, was made in 1939, and a third interpretation by John Ford entitled My Darling Clementine was released in 1946.

He supposedly wrote the book with Earp's input,i and it portrays Earp as a fearless lawman. But before the first movie was released, his widow Josephine Earp sued 20th Century Fox for $50,000 in an attempt to keep them from making the film. She said it was an "unauthorized portrayal" of Wyatt Earp. She succeeded in getting Earp's name completely excised from the movie. His character was renamed "Michael Wyatt," and the movie was released as Frontier Marshal.

Synopsis

Wandering lawman Michael Wyatt rides into a lawless town and runs into conflict with the local boss, Doc Warren.

Following a series of robberies of the K & A Railroad, detective Tom Gordon (Tom Mix) is hired to uncover the mystery. Disguised as a bandit, Tom boards the train of K & A President Cullen. In this voice over (Ronald Reagan) reenactment documentary, we follow the events of Captain Hewitt T. Wheless career as an bomber pilot for the US Army Air Corps during World War II. The story ranges from when Wheless joined in 1938 just before the war, through theoretical and practical training and education at Randolph and March Fields. He piloted a bombing mission in the Philippines early in the war, which resulted in his bomber plane being severely damaged after being attacked by a total of eighteen Japanese fighter planes in the air. A recording of a speech made by President Roosevelt, praising the pilot's extraordinary service, is highlighted. Captain Wheless at the end of the film gives a speech at the Boeing factory in Seattle, complimenting the workers.

Fickle Juliet Marsden (Shirley Ross) breaks off her engagement to Lucius Lorimer (Jerome Cowan) for the third time to marry handsome singer and ladykiller Rodney Trask (Dennis Morgan). After the wedding, Juliet's Southern cousin, Laura Anders (Jane Wyatt), calls from South Carolina to apologize for not attending because of appendicitis. Juliet promises to visit Laura on her honeymoon and has Rodney write down the address. Before the newlyweds can leave, Rodney is visited by a woman named Clara Raymond, who blackmails him over their past relationship. Juliet's friend, Betty Trent (Lee Patrick), sees them drive away in Rodney's car. Rodney refuses to pay and is hit over the head by Clara's accomplice, developing amnesia. The blackmailers drive the car over a cliff, where it bursts into flames, and although no body is found, Rodney is believed to be dead. Rodney, not knowing who he is, takes the name "Happy Homes" from an F.H.A. billboard he chances to see, finds Laura's address in his pocket, and travels to her cotton plantation in search of his true identity. Laura has no idea who he is, but Rodney talks her into hiring him to run the nearly bankrupt plantation.
