Little Red Decides est un film américain réalisé par Jack Conway, sorti en 1918.

Synopsis

Après la mort de ses parents, "Little Red" est adopté par les cowboys du ranch du colonel Ferdinand Aliso. Le révérend Jones et ses paroissiens protestent, mais les cowboys, et tout particulièrement Duck Sing, le cuisinier chinois du ranch, sont si en amour devant cet enfant qu'ils acceptent de donner leur argent à l'église pour calmer la congrégation. Après que Little Red a failli mourir d'une pneumonie, le Docteur Kirk insiste pour que l'enfant vive soit avec le pasteur, soit que l'un des cowboys se marie afin que l'enfant ait une mère. Pendant que l'enfant est en convalescence chez le révérend, Tom Gilroy est désigné par ses collègues pour faire la cour aux femmes pouvant se marier dans le village, une veuve et deux vielles filles. À son grand soulagement, toutes les trois déclinent sa proposition. Finalement, Duck Sing kidnappe Little Red, et le colonel, ému, adopte légalement l'enfant.

The film opens in the year 1759 with the arrival of Langdon Towne (Robert Young) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The son of a cordage (rope)- maker and ship rigger, he returns from Harvard University after being expelled for complaining about college food and drawing an unflattering picture of the President of Harvard College. Though disappointed, Langdon's family greets him with love, as does Elizabeth Browne (Ruth Hussey), the daughter of a noted clergyman. Elizabeth's father (Louis Hector) is less welcoming, however, and denigrates Langdon's aspirations to becoming a painter. That evening, while drinking in the local tavern with friend Sam Livermore (Lester Matthews), Langdon makes indiscreet remarks disparaging Wiseman Clagett (Montagu Love), the king's attorney, and the Indian agent, Sir William Johnson, unaware that Clagett is sitting in the next room with another official. Facing arrest for his comments, Langdon fights the two men with the help of "Hunk" Marriner (Walter Brennan), a local woodsman and friend, before they both escape into the woods.

A cocky American named Lee Sheridan (Robert Taylor) receives a scholarship to attend Cardinal College, Oxford University in 1937. At first, Lee is reluctant to go to the college owing to his father Dan's (Lionel Barrymore) limited income, but he finally does attend. Once in England, Lee brags about his athletic triumphs to Paul Beaumont (Griffith Jones), Wavertree (Robert Coote), and Ramsey (Peter Croft) on the train to Oxford. Annoyed, they trick Lee into getting off the train at the wrong stop. Lee, however, does make his way to Oxford where the students attempt to trick him again, this time into thinking that he is getting a grand reception. Seeing through the deception, he follows the prankster impersonating the Dean and after chasing him is thrown off and ends up kicking the real Dean of Cardinal (Edmund Gwenn) before retreating.
