The film features Jyothika and Prithviraj in lead roles while Prakash Raj and Swarnamalya portray supporting roles. The film's plot is about Karthik (Prithviraj) who works as a musician in films falls in love with a deaf girl, Archana (Jyothika), but she considers him as his friend and disapproves his love. Rest of the story revolves around Archana accepting Karthik's love.
The film was launched in 2006 and shooting was held at several locations in India and Mauritius. Vidyasagar scored the music while lyrics were written by Vairamuthu. Mu. Kasivishwanathan handled the editing and K. V. Guhan worked as the cinematographer. The dialogues were written by Viji. The film was released on 23 February 2007 and emerged a critical and commercial success, despite facing stiff competition from Paruthiveeran at the box-office. The film, notably, was the last film that Jyothika signed up for, as she retired from acting after marriage. Mozhi became a milestone in the career of Jyothika. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Maatarani Mounamidi.
Mozhi was the first Tamil film receiving the fastest launch in the home video market. The producers had tied up with optical disc maker Moser Baer for the release. The film was premiered in the Non prize section section of 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
Synopsis
Karthik (Prithviraj) and Viji (Prakash Raj) are close friends, who are keyboard players in music director Vidyasagar’s team. They are brilliant in their work of re-recording and background scores. They are fun-loving, witty and share a great rapport. They come to live in an apartment complex where they meet a handful of interesting people. Their neighbour and flat secretary, Ananthakrishnan (Brahmanandam) is not too happy about Karthik occupying the flat and asks him to vacate as bachelors are not allowed to live there. Preethi (Neelima Rani), a girl from one of those apartments, is head over heels in love with Karthik.Actors

During a walk to the park Raghuraman (Prakash Raj) meets Sudhakar (Prithviraj Sukumaran) and tells him about daughter Abhi (Trisha Krishnan). Raghuraman is the loving husband of Anu (Aishwarya Sivachandran) and the worrisome as well as caring father of his only daughter Abhi. Together they live a calm and content life in Ooty. Also living with them is "Ravi Shastri" (Elango Kumaravel) who was earlier a beggar and was adopted by Abhi. Raghuraman and Abhi become best friends. Over the years as Abhi grows up, Raghuraman has the joy of being a part of her life. When Abhi gets accepted in a prestigious college in New Delhi, Raghuraman is shocked. Although the thought of being separated from his daughter for two whole years is heartbreaking, Raghuraman wearily accepts. After returning from college, Abhi tells her parents that she has fallen in love with a young man in Delhi. Anu is perfectly all right with the idea, but Raghuraman is angry and scared. He shouts at Abi and does not talk to her properly. Anu later informs Raghuraman that their future son-in-law will be arriving by flight and staying with them for a while. As soon as Raghuraman meets his future son-in-law, Joginder Singh (Ganesh Venkatraman), he is taken aback because Joginder is a Sikh. After many conflicts with Abhi and Anu, Raghuraman finally realizes that Joginder is self-sacrificing and quite talented, more so when on one occasion the Prime Minister calls him for advice. Abhi and Joginder get married and leave for Delhi. Anu and Abhi get teary-eyed, but Raghuraman stays calm. This is very surprising because he was the one that had cried on his daughter's first day to school. Raghuraman tells Sudhakar that he still stays in touch with his daughter and often gets to see her. Sudhakar understands how Raghuraman feels because he has a baby daughter himself. The movie ends with a phone call from Abhi.

Arjun (Allu Sirish) is a rich kid who has all the luxuries in life. One day, his dad sends him to a village called T Vennure for some business work. After finding a strong opposition from Pasupathy's son Saravanan (Harish) and Palani (Brahmaji), Arjun along with his friend Venky (Sricharan) and Yazhini assemble all their college friends as a group along with the neighbour village youth as a group to find the mystery behind Shanmugam and Rajeswari's absence from the village, only to know that they were killed and buried at the grounds of a Damaged Monument. Arjun stays back there to find out the reason behind the couple's death. After finding a help from Pasupathy's wife (Pavitra Lokesh) and Daughter in Law (Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli), Arjun files a case with the help of Yazhini. The case, though interrupted many times due to Saravanan's men, including the town's police, remains steady due to the efforts of Arjun and his friends. A fine day, on the request of Pasupathy's wife, Palani promises to help Arjun in the mystery. As promised he helps them by narrating the incidents happened actually.
