Palletooru is a 1952 Telugu film directed by Tatineni Prakash Rao (debut). This Silver Jubilee film has set a new trend for many more rural based films with good informative themes. Cheyetti Jai Kottu Telugoda, patriotic song by Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao was very popular during those days of post-independent era.

Synopsis

Chandram (NTR) is the hero with reformist ideas. He works against the moneylender Ganapathy (SV Ranga Rao) and Kondaiah (Nagabhushanam). Finally after a long legal battle Chandram fights for farmers and their rights and does not hesitate to go to jail.

Zamindar of a village has no children and adopts a boy from an Orphanage. The boy grows up as Anandarao (NTR) and returns to the village after higher education. Zamindar, while dying, hands over the estate affairs to Ramaiah (Doraiswamy), who gains good reputation and prestige. He has a son Satyam (ANR) and a daughter Sundaramma (Savitri). Anandrao feels jealous about Ramaiah. Chalapathi (Ramana Reddy) and Pitchaiah (Chadalavada) adds to his jealousy. He insults Ramaiah and stops the donation programme running on the name of Zamindar. Satyam as an unemployee joins as Bus conductor and Ramaiah dies of helplessness. Anandrao purchases the Bus and dismisses Satyam from the job. Chalapathi insults Sundaramma and angered Satyam beats him and goes to jail. Chalapathi and Pitchaiah steal the adoption papers from Anandrao and tries to dismiss him. He joins the Annadana Samajam. This brings about The Change (Parivartana) in him and repents for the injustice done to the Ramaiah family. Sundaramma recognizes the change in his mindset and starts loving him. Satyam recognizes the love affair between them, and recollects the documents from Pitchaiah and provides them in the court. Chalapathi and Pitchaiah are arrested and Anandrao and Sundaramma married happily.

The film tells the story of twin sisters who get separated at birth due to poverty. One is brought up by a wealthy person, and the other by the mother (Lakshmi). A doctor (Gemini Ganesan) comes to treat the ailing mother, and the mother's daughter falls in love with him, of which the doctor is unaware. On her deathbed, the mother reveals to her daughter the existence of the twin. The young woman goes in search of her sister and by sheer chance, both travel in the same train. The train has an accident and the wealthy sister loses her memory and is presumed dead.

Venu (ANR) is a very poor student and seeks to come out of hostel unable bear the expenses and shift to a lawyer Anand Rao (S.V. Rangarao)'s outhouse who gives it for free of cost. Venu has a brother who is a blacksmith and funds his studies and his daughter in their village. The lawyer's wife doesn't agree to give their room to bachelors and so lawyer insists that he says that he is married. The lawyer has a daughter Shanthi (Savitri) who falls in love with Venu. Her parents agree for their marriage. Venu completes his B.A. degree and goes to his village. His brother dies of ill-health and asks him to take care of his daughter Jaya. Jaya loves a man named Kumar (Nagabhushanam) who is very deceptive, and has a blind sister Radha (Janaki). When Venu asks Kumars' parents to get Jaya married to their son, they agree on one condition that Venu should marry their daughter. So Venu and Shanthi sacrifice their love. Venu is guilty of dumping her and doesn't like his wife. One day Shanthi comes and mitigates the situation. Janaki's brother and his wife create nuisence. Janaki becomes pregnant. To keep her away from all these problems, he takes his wife to Hampi Vijayanagar on Shanthi's advice. There Kumar who cheats a lady and kills her on a mountain. Hearing her screaming, Venu arrives there and sees the culprit and gets caught to police to save Kumar's life for the sake of his brother's daughter. Shanthi who is now a lawyer takes up his case and proves that he is innocent in the court and unveils the culprit with the help of strong evidence brought by Jaya, he becomes remorseful. The story ends with Venu and his wife lead a happy life.

Aruna lives a wealthy lifestyle with her paternal grandfather. She has come of marriageable age and he wants her to get married to a young man named Pran. Shekhar lives a poor lifestyle along with his maternal uncle, Dharamdas; his aunt; a cousin, Sita - who is separated from her husband, Mahesh; and also has a sister, Gauri, who had eloped with her lover and who everyone believes is dead. He studies in college along with wealthy fellow collegian, Bela. The two do not get along, but that changes when Bela's dad, Thakur, comes to know about Shekhar's good character and thinks that he will be a suitable son-in-law. He approaches Dharamdas and arranges their marriage on the condition that Shekhar move in with his family, to which Dharamdas and Shekhar agree. Bela's mom is however displeased, as she would like her daughter to marry Rajan Murari, the son of their employee, Govindram. Despite this, the marriage does take place and Shekhar moves in with his in-laws, is employed by Thakur, and the family settles down to a fairly harmonious relationship. Their idyllic lifestyle is shattered when Bela suspects, and then discovers evidence, that Sita and Mahesh, who are now reunited, have stolen her diamond necklace; that Shekhar is having an affair with a dancing girl; that he has embezzled Rs.10,000/- and had gone to an undisclosed location for 3 days. Things get even worse when Thakur meets with an accident, and subsequently passes away - paving the way for his wife to arrange her daughter's divorce and Shekhar's death.

In the kingdom of Malarpuri, the queen (P. Kannamba) delivers a male child. Her brother Naganathan (M. N. Nambiar) replaces it with a dead child with help from a maidservant, and informs king Varaguna Pandiyan (Sadasiva Rao) that the newborn is dead. To Naganathan's surprise, the queen gives birth to another boy soon after delivering the first. Minister Gunaseelar arrives by then and the king is informed of the birth of two children, one dead and one alive. Everyone is happy that at least one is alive. Naganathan decides to kill the first infant and hands it over to his servant Somappa (Stunt Somu). However, Somappa and his wife raise the prince in a forest.
