Pardon Mon Affaire (French: Un éléphant ça trompe énormément, English: An Elephant Can Be Extremely Deceptive) is a French 1976 film directed by Yves Robert. It was remade as the 1984 American film The Woman in Red. The original title contains a pun that cannot be translated in English. The word "trompe" means both "trunk" (an elephant's organ) and "to cheat" (in a sexual/romantic way). The movie is about a married man's desire to have an affair with a model he just met.

The financially troubled businessman Matthias Duval gets to know two beautiful unwed sisters. Betty and Liz Kerner are twins and they are about to inherit a fortune. But the according last will states they mustn't receive the assets unless they are married. Duval tries to solve the issue by pretending he was a twin too. He invents a twin brother and in order to make everybody believe there was a second person with his looks he creates for his imagined brother a character very different from his own. Two cousins related by marriage, Marthe (Marie-Christine Barrault) and Ludovic (Victor Lanoux), meet at a family wedding for the first time. Marthe is the bride's daughter and Ludovic is the groom's nephew. After a raucous wedding reception with plenty of dancing and drinking, Marthe and Ludovic are left waiting for their respective spouses, Pascal (Guy Marchand) and Karine (Marie-France Pisier), who are off having sex. While they wait, they get to know each other: Marthe is a secretary and Ludovic is a dance instructor who changes his occupation every three years. Martin Belhomme est un lâche de naissance, d'ailleurs chez lui la lâcheté se transmet de génération en génération. Bernard Milan, the second-in-command of France's Counter-Espionage department, is out to discredit his chief Louis Toulouse so that he can supplant him. When a French heroin smuggler who has been arrested in New York claims that the drug smuggling was a secret mission on the orders of French Counter-Espionage (actually on Milan's orders), the resulting bad press reflects on Toulouse, who cannot prove that Milan was responsible. In retaliation, Toulouse hatches a plot to deal with his ambitious subordinate: in a room which he knows is filled with hidden microphones, he sends his assistant Perrache to Orly airport at 9:30AM the next morning, making Milan (who has been listening) believe that Perrache has gone to meet a master spy who will expose Milan's treachery. However, Toulouse secretly instructs Perrache to choose someone at random from the crowd of travelers arriving at that time.
