It stars Steven Molony as a British hypochondriac who turns to crime after becoming addicted to consumerism. The film pays homage to the filmmaking styles of Joel and Ethan Coen, Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie.
Pinching Penny was independently shot in the Fargo-Moorhead area of North Dakota and Minnesota during the summer of 2009 with budget of $4,000, which Glaser funded by enrolling in a two-month medical study along with remaining funds raised by Kickstarter.
The film was awarded a top prize from the 2011 Indie Fest for Leading Actor (Molony) in a Feature Film.

Synopsis
In Fargo, North Dakota, Alex (Steven Molony), a British hypochondriac, and his Scottish accomplice Murphy (Timothy J. Meyer) set out on a robbery spree to feed the former's self-proclaimed oniomania. After an unsuccessful first attempt, which results in Alex breaking his nose, the duo meet Teddi (Ginny Glaser), a femme fatale, who is not unintimidated by the criminals and manages to seduce herself—by way of Murphy—into their ranks. With Teddi's guidance, the trio decide to gain money by ransoming someone. That night, they abduct a grocery store clerk named Penny (Lauren J. Wertz) and bring her back to their house.Actors

Matt Buckner (Elijah Wood), a journalism major, is expelled from Harvard University after cocaine is discovered in his room. However, the cocaine belongs to Jeremy Van Holden (Terence Jay), his roommate. Buckner is afraid to speak up because the Van Holdens are a powerful family, and Jeremy offers him $10,000 for taking the fall. Matt doesn't initially accept the money, but reconsiders and uses the money to visit his sister Shannon (Claire Forlani), her husband Steve Dunham (Marc Warren) and their young son, Ben (James Allison) living in London. There, Matt meets Steve's brother, Pete (Charlie Hunnam), an acerbic and imposing Cockney who leads the local football hooligan firm - a group of football supporters that arranges fights after matches - and teaches at a local school. Steve asks Pete to take Matt to a football match between West Ham United and Birmingham City, though Pete is reluctant to take a "Yank" to a football match, because of the xenophobic attitude of his friends. He is persuaded because Steve will only give the money Pete needs to Matt. After defeating Matt in a fight, Pete decides to take Matt to the football match, thinking he might learn something about football.

After finishing a long shift, nurse Ana returns to her suburban neighborhood and her husband, Luis. Caught up in a scheduled date night, they miss an emergency news bulletin.
