C’est le premier long-métrage de l’acteur en tant que scénariste et réalisateur. Il est sélectionné en hors compétition « Premieres » et projeté en avant-première mondiale en janvier 2017 au Festival du film de Sundance.

Synopsis

J. D. Salinger, de sa jeunesse à la Seconde Guerre mondiale, en passant sa vie romantique avec Oona O'Neill et la publication de son livre L'Attrape-cœurs (The Catcher in the Rye, 1951).

The story takes place in and around Paris, France in 1931. The story told is one of a love triangle between the Millers and Anaïs Nin. She is in a stable relationship with her husband Hugo, but longs for more out of life. When Nin first meets Henry Miller, he is working on his first novel. Nin is drawn to Miller and his wife June, as well as their bohemian lifestyle. Nin becomes involved in the couple's tormented relationship, having an affair with Miller and also pursuing June. Ultimately, Nin helps Miller to publish his novel, Tropic of Cancer, but catalyzes the Millers' separation, while she returns to Hugo.

However, he stumbles onto the story of a lifetime when he meets a retired U.S. Army Special Forces operator, Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), who reveals that he was part of a U.S. Army unit training psychic spies (or "Jedi Warriors") to develop a range of parapsychological skills including invisibility, remote viewing, and phasing. The back story is told mainly through flashbacks.
