It was made as a response to the 1915 film The Birth of a Nation, and was meant to discredit the negative stereotypes perpetuated by the film. The Birth of a Race was released following the end of World War I.
This film is preserved at the Library of Congress.
Synopsis
Following the "Birth of the Human Race" section of the film, two brothers in a German-American family go to war in Europe, one ("George") fighting for the United States, and the other ("Oscar") fighting for Germany. George is wounded, and at the hospital defends it from a German attack, killing Oscar in the process. George is sent home to America, where he rescues his wife from a German spy.Actors

As described in a film magazine, Armand Duval (Roscoe), a son in the proud but poor house of Duval, loves Camille (Bara), a notorious Parisian beauty. His love for Camille means that his sister Celeste (Whitney) cannot marry the man she loves, so the father goes to Camille and begs her to give Armand up, which she does. This arouses the anger of Armand and he denounces her one evening in public. The Count de Varville (Law) challenges Armand to a duel which he wins, wounding Armand in the arm. Believing Camille no longer loves him, Armand does not go to see her. One day his father tells him that Camille is dying. He goes to her and, after a few words, she dies in the arms of her lover.

It is June 1940, during the Battle of France. After five-year-old Paulette's parents and pet dog die in a German air attack on a column of refugees fleeing Paris, the traumatized child meets 10-year-old Michel Dollé whose peasant family takes her in. She quickly becomes attached to Michel. The two attempt to cope with the death and destruction that surrounds them by secretly building a small cemetery among the ruins of an abandoned watermill, where they bury her dog and start to bury other animals, marking their graves with crosses stolen from a local graveyard, including one belonging to Michel's brother. Michel's father first suspects that Michel's brother's cross was stolen from the graveyard by his neighbour. Eventually, the father finds out that Michel has stolen the cross.

George Armstrong Custer (Errol Flynn) enters West Point and quickly establishes himself as a troublemaker by showing up in an outlandish uniform he had designed himself, which makes him appear to be a visiting foreign general. After the misunderstanding, he signs up as a cadet, and begins to stack up demerits for pranks and a general disregard for rules while at the Point. Au Nicaragua en 1979, le journaliste-photographe Russell Price couvre la guerre civile opposant les sandinistes au président Anastasio Somoza. Ses amis, le chef d'antenne Alex Grazier et la journaliste de la radio Claire, l'accompagnent. Au moment où ils arrivent, les sandinistes frappent même jusque dans la capitale, Managua. Au fil des jours, Russell en vient à se poser des questions sur la façon de couvrir cette guerre, lorsqu'il prend conscience de la brutalité de l'armée somoziste vis-à-vis de la population. Lui et Claire sont bientôt approchés par les sandinistes afin de photographier Rafael, leur leader, dont le gouvernement nicaraguayen vient d'annoncer la mort. Rafael est en réalité bel et bien mort, mais les guérilleros veulent démontrer, par une photographie, qu'il est toujours vivant afin de finir la guerre à leur avantage. Après quelques hésitations, Russell accepte et, le lendemain, la photo du chef sandiniste est diffusée dans tout le pays, ce qui déstabilise quelque peu le gouvernement Somoza. Le régime commence à se poser des questions sur la neutralité de la presse. Alex Grazier est bientôt arrêté puis abattu par la Guardia. Russell Price, qui a réussi à photographier l'assassinat, parvient à rendre publiques les photos et le gouvernement américain abandonne toute aide au régime somoziste. Les sandinistes entrent en vainqueurs à Managua et le dictateur fuit le pays.
