The film tells the story of a group of kids who lives in a township of the poorest and most disreputable streets of Rome. The story is set in the typical climate of the Second World War's end. Thomas is a guy almost adult who lives at the expense of others, like all his other companions, stealing and wasting time. In fact there is nothing in his area, there is no education, no job, no social centers... Thomas in fact goes along with cronies stealing garbage and pieces of old iron to resell them to messy and equally poor body of the township. Thus, gleaned a few hundred pounds, Thomas and friends can have fun going to prostitutes or watching movies at the cinema.

An atomic rocket is launched on a manned moon mission, but one of the engines malfunctions. The rocket's steering is broken. The pilot disengages the capsule and returns to Earth. The atomic booster, however, continues on, eventually crashing into and exploding in an asteroid belt. The explosion dislodges many asteroids from their orbits. They coalesce into one giant cluster and are heading for earth. As the cluster approaches earth it causes global scale disasters: tidal waves, wind, fire storms and earthquakes. One scientist loses his sanity in the crisis and disables the great computer needed to calculate all the firing data. He is stopped and the data provided. When there seems to be no reasonable hope that humans could eventually avoid the crash, scientists find that the moon will pass in front of the cluster so that the Earth will be shielded from most of it. However, a small part of the cluster is not shielded and goes towards the Earth. At this point, mankind's only hope is to arm every missile on earth with a nuclear warhead and fire them all at the cluster. The nations of the world band together and fire the volley. The cluster is destroyed.

Colonel Antonio Cavalli (Toto), promoted to general, after many years spent fighting in the army and commanding Italian Army troops in the Great War and the Second World War, is sent into retirement. But he, accustomed to the command of everything and everyone, cannot get used to quiet family life. He decides to work in an office. When Antonio discovers that his wife (Andreina Pagnani) is secretly paying his salary, this depresses him even more. Eventually two crooks involve him in a real estate ripoff, using his reputation they get him to him sign off on several frauds and scams, which threaten to send him to jail and compromises his high honor as an Italian Army General. Paul Verdier est un modeste représentant en chocolaterie qui n'a pas trouvé en son épouse la femme idéale. Le timide représentant, d'abord surpris, finit par consentir. D'abord, tout se passe à merveille, un grand repas a lieu, les voisins et le curé accourent. Le lendemain après que Paul ait dormi seul dans la grange la supercherie est découverte, mais le pardon arrive vite. Paul gardera le souvenir de sa bonne action et de la tendre Marie.
