A woman, Sintel, is attacked while traveling through a wintery mountainside. After defeating her attacker and taking his spear, she finds refuge in a shaman's hut. He asks her why she's travelling, and she confesses she's looking for a dragon, leading into a flashback. Sintel was a homeless loner, looking for food when she discovered an injured baby dragon. She nursed him back to health and named him Scales, the two quickly formed an emotional bond. One day while Scales was flying he was captured by an adult dragon. Determined to get him back, Sintel began the long and dangerous journey that led her to the shaman's hut.

Submission décrit quatre femmes incarnées par la même actrice voilée, vêtue d'un tchador transparent, son corps nu tatoué de versets du Coran. Ces personnages sont des musulmanes qui ont été maltraitées de différentes façons. Le film fait entendre les monologues de ces femmes, en soulignant trois versets du Coran appelant à de bons comportements au sein du couple, le rôle de l'homme et de la femme dans une relation pieuse, ainsi que des règles régissant le divorce et la réconciliation ; puis citant une certaine supériorité de l'homme par rapport à la femme, d'une façon très complexe, livrée à plusieurs interprétations, en les montrant inscrits sur le corps des femmes.

A terrible storm causes hundreds of dikes to break in Zeeland, resulting in the North Sea flood of 1953. Julia, a single mother living with her parents, is caught in the middle of the catastrophic flood. She is rescued from drowning and taken to safety by her neighbour Aldo, who is a member of the armed forces. However, her baby is left in a wooden box in the attic of Julia's parental home. Together Julia and Aldo return to the disaster area to look for the baby. When they finally find the box, it is empty, and they conclude that someone must have taken the child. The child ended up with a woman who recently lost her own baby in a car accident. Julia met her but because the woman did not want to lose the baby, she hid him for Julia. Eighteen years later, Julia meets her son and the woman again and she finds out what has happened.
