Deborah Kara Unger (born 12 May 1966) is a Canadian actress. She is known for her roles in the films Highlander III: The Sorcerer (1994), Crash (1996), The Game (1997), Payback (1999), The Hurricane (1999), White Noise (2005), Silent Hill (2006), 88 Minutes (2008) and The Way (2010).

Biography

Deborah est née d'une mère spécialiste de stockage des déchets nucléaires et d'un père gynécologue. Elle a fait des études à L'institut national d'art dramatique. Avant de devenir actrice, elle a étudié l'économie et la philosophie à l'université de la Colombie-Britannique (UBC). Elle vit maintenant à Los Angeles.

Après des études de philosophie et d'économie à l'Université de Victoria au Canada, elle devient la première Canadienne à être acceptée à l'Institut National australien d'Arts dramatiques. Sortie diplômée en 1988, elle obtient un rôle dans la mini-série Bangkok Hilton aux côtés de Nicole Kidman. Elle tourne l'année suivante son premier film, Prisoners of the sun.

À l'affiche du thriller américain Intimes confessions (1992) et figurant au casting de la série télévisée Hotel Room de David Lynch, elle accède à la notoriété grâce à sa prestation dans le controversé Crash de son compatriote David Cronenberg.
Souvent reléguée aux rôles de second plan et de faire-valoir dans des drames et des thrillers, elle collectionne néanmoins les partenaires masculins de renom comme Tim Roth (No way home), Michael Douglas (The Game), Mel Gibson (Payback), Denzel Washington (Hurricane Carter), Stellan Skarsgård (Signs & Wonders), John Turturro (Inside Job) et Michael Keaton (La Voix des morts), Martin Sheen (The Way).

The film begins with Francisco Francis (Forest Whitaker) running in the jungle with his family while soldiers are shooting and killing people around them. The scene changes to an office building where Tony Green (Steven Bauer) is speaking to Bruce (Kim Coates) in Clearbec corporate offices telling him that Francisco had broken into the local offices and stolen their files. As he converses with Bruce, he orders Renaldo (Devon Bostick), a young aide in his office, to hurry. Renaldo and Tony leave the local offices amid gunfire and chaos, but pause when a woman shouts at Renaldo. She is his mother; she is shot and killed by soldiers as Renaldo looks on. Tony shows his corporate ID to the soldiers and pulls Renaldo into his car. As they attempt to leave the city, they stop at a road block and watch soldiers gun down an unarmed man. Renaldo jumps out of the car and escapes the carnage.
