Philip Jackson (born 18 June 1948) is an English actor, known for his many television and film roles, most notably as Chief Inspector Japp in the television series Poirot and as Abbot Hugo, one of the recurring adversaries in the cult 1980s series Robin of Sherwood.

Jackson was born in Retford, Nottinghamshire. He started acting while studying Drama and German at the University of Bristol, and has worked in the theatre in Leeds, Liverpool and London. His stage work includes Pozzo in Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot at the Queen's Theatre in the West End in 1991 and Willy Loman in Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds in 2010. He was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Little Voice (1998).

His many television appearances have included Coronation Street, Robin of Sherwood, A Touch of Frost, Foyle's War, Midsomer Murders, Heartbeat, Little Britain, Hamish Macbeth and Last of the Summer Wine. He has also appeared in films, including the 1979 Scum and Paul McCartney's Give My Regards to Broad Street, Brassed Off, Mike Bassett: England Manager, "Grow Your Own", and My Week with Marilyn. In 2007 he starred in the BBC Radio adaptation of the Petrella mysteries by Michael Gilbert, and guest-starred in the Doctor Who audio play "Valhalla". In 2009 he starred as Gaynor's father Roy in the BBC 2 sitcom Home Time. In "Night Watch", he played Commander Vimes and in "Mort", he played Death's butler/cook, Albert who is eventually revealed to be Alberto Malich. He also voiced Risda Tarkaan on the BBC radio drama version of The Last Battle. He recently read Gulliver's Travels as an audiobook, and Martin Cruz Smith's Three Stations for Radio 4 Book at Bedtime.

In 2011, Jackson starred as Ron in the three-part BBC comedy drama series Sugartown alongside The Royle Family star Sue Johnston and actor Tom Ellis, who plays Gary in Miranda. He also appeared in the music video of A-Ha's Take on Me.

In 2012, he appeared in the twice Oscar nominated film My Week with Marilyn as Marilyn's security guard.

The film tells a story of love and deceit, set in Europe (Trieste, Bolzano, Fidenza, Rome, Milan, Merano, Vienna, Prague) in the world of high-end art auctions and antiques. The story revolves around Virgil Oldman (Geoffrey Rush), an aging and esteemed, but somewhat eccentric, managing director of an auction house. Oldman is hired by a reclusive young heiress, Claire Ibbetson (Sylvia Hoeks), to auction off the large collection of art and antiques left to her by her parents. Set in May 1990, the movie follows the exploits of five lads. Gary 'Tits' Tichfield, Darren 'Dodge' Howard, Chris 'Zippy' Weeks, 'Little' Gaz Duffy and 'Penfold' Andrew Peach. The Stone Roses fans and wannabe band Shadowcastre. It starts 60 hours prior to The Stone Roses legendary gig at Spike Island, Cheshire. When the group get an idea to give The Stone Roses their cassette tape from Sally a girl which both 'Tits' and 'Dodge' show interest in, although 'Dodge' has never spoken to her. They hatch a plan to get tickets to the gig and kickstart their career 'Tits' brother 'Ibiza Steve' gets the boys on the guest-list for the gig. But when 'Tits' dad gets increasingly ill during the 60 hours, he fails to turn up and on the morning of the gig his dad worsens but his dad tells 'Tits' to go to the gig.'Penfolds' dad burns his top in an effort to stop him from going and when he goes to hit him 'Penfolds' stands up to his dad after his dad has been abusing him and heads to the gig.They lure 'Uncle Hairy' out of his van and steal it but when they run out of gas they have to stop but 'Penfold' convinces them to walk to the M6. They hide in the baggage hold of the bus until they arrive at Spike Island, Cheshire .Once arrived they jump out of their hiding place and are chased by police and the bus driver but lose them in the crowd.They lose 'Penfold' and are unable to find him, so they carry on to the entry zone. But are thrown away because they don't have tickets and they don't have guestlists. The remaining 4 make their way to the outside of the venue. They meet Sally who has lost her friends in the crowd and doesn't want to go in alone and gives 'Dodge' her ticket.'Dodge' heads for the gig without the cassette tape because he was afraid "to fuck it up". On his way back to the boys, he sees Sally and 'Tits' hooking up.'Tits' and 'Dodge' later argue but when 'Tits' dad eventually dies they make up.At the end of the movie it's shown that 'Tits' and Sally are together and all the boys have moved on as School has finished.The ending scene shows 'Tits' and looking at 'Dodge' from his window while 'Dodge' walks down the lane with his guitar and bags.

Following his graduation from university in 1956, aspiring filmmaker Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne) travels to London to get a job on Laurence Olivier's (Kenneth Branagh) next production.
