Sydney Box is a Scriptwriter and Producer British born on 29 april 1907 at London Borough of Bromley (United-kingdom)
Sydney Box (29 April 1907 – 25 May 1983) was a British film producer and screenwriter, and brother of British film producer Betty Box. In 1940, he founded the documentary film company Verity Films with Jay Lewis.
He produced and co-wrote the screenplay, with his then wife Muriel Box, for The Seventh Veil (1945), which received the 1946 Oscar for best original screenplay. The couple were then hired by the Rank Organisation to run Gainsborough Studios. They disapproved of the Gainsborough melodramas which had been the studio's major success in the previous few years and switched production to a broader range of more "realistic" films with mixed results. Gainsborough was merged into the Rank Organisation in 1949. Box ended his cinema career in 1958 to concentrate on TV work. Box was part of a consortium that launched Tyne Tees Television in 1959.
Sydney and Muriel divorced in 1969.

Sydney Box est issu d'une famille relativement pauvre. In juvenile court, 15-year-old Elizabeth (Pauline Hahn) recounts her story (in flashback) before the judge. Elizabeth lives with her working mother in New York while her father is away working in California. Elizabeth's tale is one of parental neglect and lack of guidance. She gets in with "the wrong crowd". After an affair with a sailor, she has an abortion and is eventually arrested for teenage prostitution. The judge (Thomas Mitchell) is sympathetic, but Elizabeth's fate hangs in the balance.

Judith Wynter (Leighton) is a novelist who pens torrid escapist romantic fiction for the popular women's market, although in real life she is a respectable, unassuming woman, happily married to husband Roger (Richardson). She uses people she knows and situations she encounters as the raw material for her fictional flights of fancy. As Roger recuperates from an illness which leaves him temporarily immobile, she pens the rough draft of her latest novel, a lurid tale of a bored and unsatisifed woman with a pompous disabled husband she despises, who embarks on a wild affair with her chauffeur and finds herself expecting his child. The new British Resident of the Welcome Islands, Ewart Gray (Donald Sinden)arrives in full uniform by ship anticipating the excitement of a posting in the tropical Indian Ocean. He is informed that the last Governor had shot himself from 'loneliness', which dampens his spirits a little. On landing he finds his quarters are not ready for him, and he is invited to stay by the local missionary Owen Jones (Paul Rogers) and his sister Martha (Glynis Johns). He soon finds their company, while friendly, a little overbearing – and returns to stay at his own residence despite it not being finished. That evening he is visited by the only other European resident of the island, known as the 'Honorable Ted' who introduces himself and drinks a large amount of Gray's whisky. Despite having been warned that Ted was a scoundrel, Gray soon warms to him, finding him well-spoken and obviously educated.

Ewart Gray, le nouveau représentant de la couronne, arrive aux Îles Welcome en grand uniforme, tout excité à l'idée de ce nouveau poste. On le prévient que son prédécesseur s'est suicidé à cause de la solitude, ce qui refroidit un peu son enthousiasme. Une fois débarqué du bateau, il se rend compte que son logement n'est pas prêt et accepte l'invitation du révérend Owen Jones et de sa sœur Martha. Il trouve leur compagnie agréable, mais bientôt un peu envahissante, il décide alors d'occuper son logement, même soi les travaux ne sont pas terminés. Le même soir, il reçoit la visite du seul autre Européen résidant sur l'île, Edward Wilson, alias "l'Honorable Ted", qui en profite pour boire une grande partie du whisky de Gray.

The House of Lords is a grocery shop that sits on the South Bank of the river Thames close to the site of Festival Hall which is noisily under construction. In the first story, a comedy, a content suburban family, headed by Jack Warner, is turned into an unhappy lot when they believe that they have the winning coupon in the football pool. But when it's discovered that the winning coupon apparently wasn't mailed by the younger daughter (Petula Clark), they regain their previously happy lives that had been made unhappy by plans they made regarding how to spend their winnings. Then, when it is discovered that the winning coupon was, in fact, mailed, they decide that they have learned their lesson and resolve not to let the money ruin their happiness. The second is more tragic, with a mild-mannered clerk (Mervyn Johns) concerned about quitting his mundane job. The third is a suspenseful crime caper involving a coupon checker (Dennis Price) and his nightclub singer girlfriend (Greta Gynt in a send-up of Rita Hayworth's Gilda) who devise a scheme to embezzle the winning pot. The final episode, another comedy, concerns a dispirited bass player (Edward Rigby) who discovers he misses the orchestra he left.
