Kubozuka graduated from Kanagawa Prefectural Yokosuka High School. He married in May 2003 and had one son. In 2004, he survived after falling 26 metres from his 9th floor apartment. The film begins with a six-year-old girl being rushed into a hospital ER with an unusually distended stomach. Doctors begin to operate and find a disembodied head, Tomie's head, alive and growing inside the girl's belly.
