Alice Schuyer (Hammerstein) est une jeune dame obstinée et entêtée. Après avoir été expulsée du couvent du Sacré-Cœur, elle est envoyée chez ses grands-parents Martha Whipple et Cumberland Whipple. Elle trouve la vie trop restrictive avec eux, et pour fuir cet univers elle épouse John Carmen (Niles Welch), croyant que le mariage lui apportera enfin la liberté. Elle traite John, qui est complètement inconscient et amoureux, avec peu d'égard. Une nuit, elle sort danser avec Harrison Thomby (Huntley Gordon) mais John Carmen, qui n'accepte pas cette situation lui demande de quitter la maison.

Betty plays a girl who is involved in the Paris criminal underworld. During World War I she becomes a wartime Red Cross nurse and after the war leaves for America for a new start in life. There she meets an old wartime colleague (Kosloff), a criminal who is conniving to steal a valuable jewel called 'The Green Temptation'. Kosloff wants Betty to help him steal the jewel and when she balks he threatens to reveal her sordid past to her new American friends. Scotland Yard detective (Mahlon Hamilton), probably hired to protect the jewel, is sweet on Betty and kills Kosloff when he tries to steal the jewel.

A man named Howard Hillary is found frozen for a hundred years in the arctic ice and is thawed out and awoken. After his awakening he insists that a young woman, Felice, is his fiancée from a century before. Hillary is admitted to a mental institution, but later escapes and realizes that he is not in his own time and that Felice is actually the descendant of his own Felice from a century ago. Hillary joins her in searching for her father, who has been abducted.
