Suite à la rupture avec son amant, Jenny Welch vit avec sa sœur Vanessa. Sa vie amoureuse instable la pousse à aller en confessions avec le père Xavier Meldrum à l’Église, recommandé par son ami d'enfance, le prêtre Bernard Cutler. Froid et acariâtre, Meldrum abuse de sa position d'homme de Dieu pour profiter des jeunes filles fragiles venues se confesser auprès de lui. Lorsqu'elles se confient, le père Meldrum enregistre secrètement leurs secrets pour ensuite leur faire du chantage. Frustré par sa misérable vie sexuelle, il séquestre notamment sa propre mère avec l'aide d'une tortionnaire blonde et castratrice. Femme libérée, Jenny est sa nouvelle proie et Meldrum, obsédé par elle, s'immisce dans sa vie privée en la traquant, en la faisant chanter avec ses aveux sur un avortement qu'elle a subi puis en tuant les hommes qu'elle fréquente pour la remettre sur le bon chemin et pour la purifier. Lorsqu’elle comprend qu'il est un psychopathe, personne ne la croit car il est inimaginable qu'un homme de foi puisse être un pervers et un meurtrier.

One day Sam Clayton (Jack Palance) and his gang arrive in the small town of Juno City where Father John (Lee van Cleef) is the priest of the town church. After having a little bit of fun that involves raping a woman and knifing a man in the back, the gang leaves town, only to be caught by the fearless but unarmed Father John. That night the murderer is broken out of gaol. Vowing revenge, the gang guns him down on the steps of his church and then set about taking control of the town while waiting for the stagecoach. However, little Johnny O'Hara (Leif Garrett) manages to escape with a couple of their horses and rides off to Mexico in the hope of finding the priest's gunfighter brother (also played by Lee van Cleef). They soon meet and set off back across the border to clean up the town. Meanwhile Clayton discovers that he is Johnny's father. Also, some fifteen years prior during the Civil War, Jenny O'Hara (Sybil Danning) had been one of Clayton's victims, adding to the mystique of the situation — as well as to the question of little Johnny's paternity — and now, enhancing the plot, Clayton takes to the idea of being a father.

In Crater Lake, Northern California, Dr. Richard Calkins (Hyman) is informed by his colleague Dan Turner (Garrison) that he and his girlfriend Susan Patterson (Cobb) have made an incredible discovery in a nearby cave system. The three head down and discover a system of cave drawings, including what appears to be a depiction of people fighting off a Plesiosaurus, thus providing evidence that dinosaurs existed at the same time as man. However, a flaming meteorite crashes into the lake just overhead, resulting in a cave-in that destroys the cave system and the drawings, while the three scientists are barely able to escape alive. The local sheriff, Steve Hanson (Cardella), sees the meteorite crash and radios in the incident before continuing on his patrol.
