Mika passe ses vacances d'été au haras de Kaltenbach chez sa grand-mère. Il est proche de la faillite à cause de la concurrence d'un autre centre équestre : L'installation moderne menace d'attirer progressivement tous les apprentis cavaliers. Sa participation à un tournoi pourrait sauver le haras. Et ainsi elle commence à s'entraîner avec son cheval Whisper pour participer à une compétition. Ce n'est qu'avec une victoire qu'elle peut éviter la banqueroute. Au cours des préparatifs du tournoi, Whisper et Mika découvrent leur intérêt pour le sexe opposé. Pour l'étalon c'est une jument grise fugitive, pour Mika le jeune Milan, qui aide Mika à l'entraînement, après l'avoir aidé à ramener la jument grise.

The film opens with Sebastian Valmont (Robin Dunne) conversing with his soon-to-be ex-principal and the principal's insistence on having Sebastian's permanent record relayed to his new school, thereby hampering his chance for a new start at Manchester prep. Following his arrival in New York, Sebastian discovers the wealth of his new family; meeting Kathryn Merteuil (Amy Adams) for the first time and bettering her with piano and vocabulary. Lafayette (Gérard Depardieu) est un jeune électricien qui vit à New York, mais il n’en fréquente que trois repères : le Musée de Cire de la Rome Antique, de Flaxman (James Coco) où il travaille, un petit théâtre géré par des féministes, son appartement en sous-sol infesté de rats. Un matin, il remarque dans la rue des individus vêtus de combinaisons blanches, il prend peur alors que ce ne sont que des dératisateurs. Au théâtre, les femmes préparent un spectacle dans lequel il est question du viol d’un homme. Lafayette, mal à l’aise durant ces répétitions, provoque quelque peu les comédiennes qui décident de le violer réellement. Cet acte de violence est accompli par Angélica (Gail Lawrence) qui par ailleurs est amoureuse de lui.

A young, naive boy named Billy Forrester (Luke Benward) has a weak stomach and vomits easily. He and his parents, Mitch (Tom Cavanagh), Helen (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), and his little brother, Woody (Ty Panitz), have just moved to a new town. Billy tells his mother that he doesn't want to go to school because he will be "the new kid". She assures him that he will make friends and everything will be okay. Raoul (Gérard Depardieu) and his wife Solange (Carole Laure) are eating in a restaurant when Raoul expresses concern with Solange's apparent depression, as she eats little, suffers migraines and insomnia and also sometimes faints. He finds another man in the room, Stéphane (Patrick Dewaere), to be her lover and hopefully enliven her again. Stéphane is puzzled by Raoul's plan but gives in to his desperate appeals for help. The two men take turns sleeping with Solange, and both try to impregnate her without success, believing a lack of a child to be the source of her depression.
