Add to a movie listSleeping Giant is a 2015 Canadian drama film directed by Andrew Cividino. It was screened in the International Critics' Week section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
The film stars Jackson Martin, Reece Moffett and Nick Serino as Adam, Nate and Riley, three young boys spending the summer together in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It is an expansion of a short film, of the same title, that Cividino made in 2013. The original short film version was a Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Live Action Short Drama at the 3rd Canadian Screen Awards.
The feature version won the award for Best Canadian First Feature Film at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and also won the Vancouver International Film Festival award for Best Canadian Film.
Synopsis
Adam, adolescent tranquille, passe l’été avec ses parents au bord du vaste Lac Supérieur, à la frontière des États-Unis et du Canada. Sa routine se brise quand il se lie d’amitié avec Riley et Nate, deux cousins qui jouent aux petits malins en passant leur temps libre entre débauche, insouciance et sauts périlleux du haut des falaises. La révélation par l’un d’eux d’un blessant secret sur Adam, entraînera plusieurs événements irréversibles qui mettront à rude épreuve leur amitié et les changeront à jamais.Comments

The story centres on an immense golden bell named The Mother of Voices, which may or may not exist. Moorish king Aly Mansuh (Sidney Poitier) is convinced that it does. Having collected all the legendary material about it that he can, he plans to mount an expedition to search for it. When the shipwrecked Norseman, Rolfe (Richard Widmark), repeats the story of the bell in the marketplace, and hints that he knows its location, he is seized by Mansuh's men and brought in for questioning. Rolfe insists that he does not know and that the bell is only a myth. He manages to escape before the questioning continues under torture.

The film starts in the 1940s, during another drought in the sertão, when ranch hand Manuel (Geraldo Del Rey) is fed up with his situation. His boss tries to cheat him of his earnings and Manuel kills him, fleeing with his wife, Rosa (Yoná Magalhães). Now an outlaw, Manuel joins up with a self-proclaimed saint who condones violence (at one point slaughtering a baby) and preaches disturbing doctrines. It is now Rosa who turns to killing and the two are on the move once again. And so it goes, the two running from one allegiance to another, following the words of others as they attempt to find a place in their ruthless land. Blending mysticism, religion, and popular culture in this symbolic and realistic drama, Rocha insists that rather than follow the external and obscure dogmas of culture and religion, man must determine his path by his own voice.

Three young American tourists, Alex (Josh Duhamel), his sister Bea (Olivia Wilde), and a friend Amy (Beau Garrett), are backpacking in Brazil. They decide to go by bus and visit parts of the country instead of flying directly to the Northeastern beaches they wish to visit. After a bus crash leaves all the passengers stranded, they are joined by two English men, Finn (Desmond Askew) and Liam (Max Brown), and an Australian woman, Pru (Melissa George), who is fluent in Portuguese. The group find a cabana bar where several other tourists and locals are partying. After spending the day on the beach, they are served drugged drinks and pass out.
