Kelly Cobb travels and performs in various country rodeos in order to get enough money to buy a patch of land to call his own. One day he picks up Jackie Adams, a saloon singer and trick rider whom he saves from a clutching admirer. The two travel together and Jackie begins to fall in love with Kelly. Kelly however doesn't notice because of his drive to risk his life for the dream of the land he pursues. The movie opens with a young woman fending off an attempted rape. In the process the would-be rapist accidentally falls off a cliff to his death. Circumstantial evidence places 16-year-old delinquent Silver (played by a 27-year-old Van Doren) at the scene and she is sent to Girls Town, a rehabilitation village run by a group of nuns. There she lives with Serafina (Gigi Perreau) and some tough chicks. Trouble and misunderstandings ensue. Troublemaker Fred (Tormé) saw the cliff incident from a distance and realizes it was actually Silver's sister, Mary Lee (Elinor Donahue), who was there. Fred blackmails Mary Lee into being his partner in deadly "hands-off drag racing," then prepares to take her to Tijuana to sell her into the slave trade.

Sisters Penny and Jane Lowe are arrested for hitchhiking and skinny dipping and are sentenced to work on a rural Texas farm for a corrupt agricultural magnate named Russ Tropp. The judge who sentenced the sisters to the farm is dating Tropp and is unaware of the treatment of the prisoners, until her son is hired to work at the farm and uncovers that a scam had been going on. Through dating the judge, Tropp ensures that all delinquents and rule breakers are ordered to work off their sentence at his farm therefore giving him a stable amount of cheap labor, allowing him to undercut all competition he faces. The judge's son also falls in love with Jane, while Penny, who performs four songs in the film, dreams of making it big in show business.
