Synopsis
Au cœur de la forêt finlandaise, dans une clairière, un jeune garçon et sa mère survivent dans une ferme en rondins dont la maison d'habitation et les dépendances tombent en ruines. Le père étant en prison, la mère handicapée, ne pouvant se déplacer sans son attelle fixée autour de la jambe, l'exploitation ne peut être correctement tenue d'autant plus qu'elle est située sur des terrains pauvres. Le jeune fils unique est muet mais, malgré les circonstances, ou à cause d'elles, il est d'une grande maturité. Il assure le rôle de visiteur de prison et à chaque visite, remet à son père une petite boîte en fer à double fond qui sert de tabatière. Il joue aussi le rôle de garçon de ferme, donne du foin au cheval, va au puits puiser de l'eau, ramasse les œufs dans le poulailler, épluche les pommes de terre qui ont l'air de constituer l'essentiel de leur alimentation et aide sa mère à fixer son attelle.Comments

Just before the French Revolution, Henriette takes her close adopted sister Louise to Paris in the hope of finding a cure for her blindness. She promises Louise that she will not marry until Louise can look upon her husband to approve him. Lustful aristocrat de Praille (whose carriage kills a child, enraging peasant father, Forget-not) meets the two outside Paris. Taken by the virginal Henriette's beauty, he has her abducted and brought to his estate where a lavish party is being held, leaving Louise helpless in the big city. An honorable aristocrat, the Chevalier de Vaudrey helps Henriette to escape de Praille and his guests by successfully fighting a duel with him. The scoundrel Mother Frochard, seeing an opportunity to make money, tricks Louise into her underground house to be kept prisoner. Unable to find Louise with the help of the Chevalier, Henriette rents a room, but before leaving her de Vaudrey comforts and kisses the distressed woman. Later, Henriette gives shelter to admirable politician Danton, who after an attack by Royalist spies following a public speech falls for her. As a result, she runs foul of the radical revolutionary Robespierre, a friend of Danton.

The film begins in September 2008 (opening against the backdrop of news of the Islamabad Marriott Hotel bombing) with an elderly Lady Thatcher buying milk unrecognized by other customers and walking back from the shop alone. Over the course of three days, we see her struggle with dementia and with the lack of power that comes with old age, while looking back on defining moments of her personal and professional life, on which she reminisces with her (now-dead) husband, Denis Thatcher, whose death she is unable to fully accept. She is shown as having difficulty distinguishing between the past and present. A theme throughout the film is the personal price that Thatcher has paid for power. Denis is portrayed as somewhat ambivalent about his wife's rise to power, her son Mark lives in South Africa and is shown as having little contact with his mother, and Thatcher's relationship with her daughter Carol is at times strained.

After sustaining a head wound in combat, decorated World War II veteran Eddie Rice (John Payne) is treated at a San Francisco military hospital for a permanent form of amnesia. This leaves him with no knowledge of his life, family and friends prior to his enlistment, a void that the army intelligence unit was unable to fill as they couldn't find any information about him, other than the fact he enlisted in Los Angeles.
