Bruce Surtees is a Director of Photography and Cinematography American born on 3 august 1937 at Los Angeles (USA)
Bruce Mohr Powell Surtees (July 23, 1937 – February 23, 2012) was an American cinematographer, the son of Maydell and cinematographer Robert L. Surtees. He is best known for his extensive work on Clint Eastwood's films, mostly westerns of the 1970s and early 1980s. His filming style has been compared to that of the Dollars trilogy of Sergio Leone.
He began as a camera operator working on Eastwood's films during the late 1960s, his credits including Coogan's Bluff and Two Mules for Sister Sara. He became a main cinematographer in 1971 with The Beguiled in which he worked as director of photography.
In 1971 he was director of photography on Dirty Harry.
Surtees was nominated for an Academy Award for his cinematography on Lenny (1974). He died in 2012 of complications from diabetes.

The movie opens with Ellen Farris, the former wife of Dr. David Farris, getting out of bed after battling an illness. In the kitchen awaits her two daughters and their father. Phil (D'Onofrio), James (Kinney), George (Shalhoub), and Tom (Sinise) meet 20 years after their championship high school game at a special reunion at their high school. Afterwards, they decide to visit the home of their old coach (Sorvino). While at first it seems they are all having a few harmless drinks, the night soon takes a violent turn as several things are realized; Phil is having an affair with George's wife, George (who is running for Mayor) is firing James, who is his campaign chairman, and Tom has become a reeling drunk. With the help of their old Coach, the men try to put their lives back together—but the Coach proves to be nothing they believed him to have been, and worse than no help; in fact, his involvement with each of the men's lives proves to have done them all much more harm than good. This is particularly glaring because of the refusal of the star player, who still hates the Coach after all these years, to attend the reunion.

Shale (Berenger) is a mercenary and a Vietnam veteran who returns home to Miami after a botched covert operation in Cuba in which three men from his platoon were killed. He surprises his girlfriend, Jane Hetzko (Diane Venora) at her apartment and is warmly welcomed. On the outside, Jane is a schoolteacher at inner-city Columbus High School, an institution with a gang problem, complete with metal detectors and gates protecting its boundaries.
