Clifford Evans (17 February 1912 – 9 June 1985) was a Welsh actor. As a conscientious objector he served in the Non-Combatant Corps in World War II.
During the summer of 1934 he appeared in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Open Air Theatre in London.
Evans played many parts in British films of the 1930s, before starring in the film The Foreman Went to France (1942). His most well-known later film roles were the two he played for Hammer Studios: Don Alfredo Carledo in The Curse of the Werewolf (1961) and the inebriated vampire-hunter, Professor Zimmer, in The Kiss of the Vampire (1963).
On television, he appeared with George Woodbridge and Tim Turner in the 15-episode series Stryker of the Yard (1957). Between 1965 and 1969, he played a major role in the TV boardroom drama The Power Game, playing building tycoon Caswell Bligh. He is also among several British actors to play the character of Number Two in The Prisoner ("Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling", 1967). He also appeared in The Avengers, The Champions, The Saint, and Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) ("When did You Start to Stop Seeing Things?", 1969). The following year, he featured in the BBC TV series Codename (1970).
He was married to Hermione Hannen who was an actress.

The story centres on an immense golden bell named The Mother of Voices, which may or may not exist. Moorish king Aly Mansuh (Sidney Poitier) is convinced that it does. Having collected all the legendary material about it that he can, he plans to mount an expedition to search for it. When the shipwrecked Norseman, Rolfe (Richard Widmark), repeats the story of the bell in the marketplace, and hints that he knows its location, he is seized by Mansuh's men and brought in for questioning. Rolfe insists that he does not know and that the bell is only a myth. He manages to escape before the questioning continues under torture.

Gerald (Edward de Souza) and Marianne Harcourt (Jennifer Daniel), are a honeymooning couple in early 20th-century Bavaria who become caught up in a vampire cult led by Dr. Ravna (Noel Willman) and his two children Carl (Barry Warren) and Sabena (Jacquie Wallis). The cult abducts Marianne, and contrive to make it appear that Harcourt was traveling alone and that his wife never existed. Harcourt gets help from hard-drinking savant Professor Zimmer (Clifford Evans), who lost his daughter to the cult and who finally destroys the vampires through an arcane ritual that releases a swarm of bats from hell.

The story is set in 18th Century Spain. A beggar is imprisoned by a cruel marques after making inappropriate remarks at the nobleman's wedding. The beggar is forgotten, and survives another fifteen years. His sole human contact is with the jailer and his beautiful mute daughter (Yvonne Romain). The aging, decrepit Marques makes advances on the jailer's daughter while she is cleaning his room. When she refuses him, the Marques has her thrown into the dungeon with the beggar. The beggar, driven mad by his long confinement, rapes her and then dies.

The film focuses on a Liverpool street gang led by Johnny Murphy (McCallum). When local Juvenile Liaison Officer Sergeant Truman (Baker) visits the Murphy household he becomes romantically involved with Johnny's sister (Anne Heywood). He also finds considerable points of similarity between his previous investigations into the activities of an arsonist known as the 'Firefly' and his investigation of Johnny Murphy. Cushing plays a local priest attempting to heal the social problems of the locality. In a final sequence prescient of more recent shooting, Murphy holds a classroom full of children hostage with a machine-gun, apparently shooting one dead. The makers appear to have backed down from a murderous death-toll, as both the priest and the shot child revive at the end. The Chinese boy knocked down by Johnny in an act of 'manslaughter', but not shot, does not survive.
