The film chronicles ambassador Davies' impressions of the Soviet Union, his meetings with Stalin, and his overall opinion of the Soviet Union and its ties with the United States. Jerry casse un vase sur la tête de Tom, qui conduit Maman à jeter Tom dehors. Jerry se délecte de sa liberté, entre autres choses, il transforme la photo de Tom dans une caricature d'Hitler puis crache sur elle. Mais il se fatigue vite de cela, et sous un pavillon de trêve, élabore un plan avec Tom. Anormalement bavard le duo organise une grande chasse, mais quand ils sont hors de vue de Mammy, ils font semblant, s'arrêtant pour un petit paté , une cuisse de dinde, et une boite de bœuf . Finalement, Tom poursuit Jerry sous un tapis, puis l'échange avec une tomate, qu'écrase Mammy. Avec Jerry apparemment vaincue, Tom est récompensé avec une tarte, mais quand Jerry essaie de réclamer sa part, Tom lui ferme la porte.

Lors de l'été 1941, Jeff Seabrook, un correspondant de guerre basé à Lisbonne, refuse la direction du bureau de Berlin, car cela fait deux ans qu'il est parti de chez lui et il espère ainsi passer plus de temps avec sa femme. À New York, Julia, un violoniste de concert qui fait partie d'un orchestre uniquement féminin, a du mal à se concentrer sur son travail car elle a engagé une procédure de divorce et craint d'annoncer la nouvelle à Jeff. Ce dernier apprend que Julia, lasse de ses longues absences et de ses promesses non tenues, est courtisée par deux hommes, le manager de l'orchestre David Torrance et le critique musical Philip Barrows. Le patron de Jeff, Johnny Girard, le convainc que la meilleure manière de regagner l'amour de Julia est de faire semblant d'accepter le divorce, et pour prouver son accord Jeff annonce à Julia qu'il va l'aider à sélectionner son successeur.

In Bridger's Wells, Nevada in 1885, Art Croft (Harry Morgan) and Gil Carter (Henry Fonda) ride into town and enter Darby's Saloon. The atmosphere is subdued due to recent incidents of cattle-rustling. Art and Gil are suspected to be rustlers because they are rarely seen in town.
