Les deux adolescents Nina et Jan se rencontrent deux fois. Lors de la première rencontre, elle lui roule accidentellement avec son vélo, ce qui fait qu'il est blessé et qu'il doit être secouru par l'urgentiste. Mais Jan se fait du souci pour Nina, car il a été contaminé par le virus HIV à la suite d'une transfusion sanguine. Alors qu'elle vit dans une famille triste, Jan est quasiment chouchouté par ses parents plutôt conservateurs. Chacun cherche à changer sa vie et à la suite de leur première rencontre chacun croît qu'il a trouvé le bon partenaire. Par hasard, ils se rencontrent une deuxième fois brièvement, et un amour se crée entre les deux, d'abord de manière hésitante puis passionnément. Ensemble, ils peuvent s'évader de la réalité, mais Jan n'ose pas lui parler de sa maladie. Peu avant qu'ils aient des rapports sexuels, Jan se dérobe par peur d'infecter Nina. Du fait que Nina croît qu'il ne l'aime pas et que Jan réagit de manière brusque, les deux se perdent de vue dans un premier temps. Mais Jan ne peut pas oublier Nina, ils se retrouvent, et à la suite d'une bagarre avec un garçon qui courtise Nina de manière salace, elle finit par prendre connaissance de sa maladie. Nina est choquée. Peu de temps après, Nina apprend qu'il y a eu un décès dans la famille de Jan. En croyant qu'il s'agit de la mort de Jan, elle se rend au crématorium. Il s'y rencontrent de nouveau. Il devient clair pour eux qu'ils s'aiment et qu'ils veulent vivre ensemble, même si cela ne semble pas possible. Ils partent ensemble en voiture avec les cendres du grand-père défunt, pour leur dernier voyage.

Jia Hongsheng, graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing in 1989, gains fame in the late 80s and early 90s as an actor in films such as The Case of the Silver Snake and A Woman from North Shaanxi. During rehearsal for a stageplay titled Kiss of the Spider Woman (also directed by Zhang Yang) in the fall of 1992, Jia first comes into contact with marijuana and subsequently becomes addicted and even experiments occasionally with heroin. In 1995, after filming Weekend Lover, Jia quits acting completely and lives off his younger sister Wang Tong. An avid fan of The Beatles, Jia listens to their music obsessively and begins to imagine himself as the son of John Lennon.

Agust a quitté l'Islande pour suivre des études de gestion à Paris, mais il les a rapidement abandonnées pour se consacrer à sa passion : la musique. Gerry Schartl est un vendeur de voitures très performant qui a aussi le talent pour fourguer les pires modèles. Pas complètement désintéressé, il pistonne l'une ou l'autre de ses ventes à Bertram, l'adjoint du directeur. Immédiatement après l'enterrement du directeur, qui est mort d'une crise cardiaque lors d'une réunion, Gerry s'envole avec Lena sa femme qui est mécontente et Patrizia sa fille adolescente pour des vacances dans un séjour tout compris à l'île balnéaire de Cosamera. À l'aéroport pour partir, Gerry remarque des incohérences qui le contraint à faire le tour du passé de la société : Lors de la dernière réunion avec le directeur, les associés de l'entreprise en Allemagne sont mentionnés, l'adjoint a souvent téléphoné ces derniers temps à un certain M. "Poppitz". Bertram avait un message important pour Gerry qu'il ne pouvait dire à l'enterrement ; Gerry devient anxieux et craint une prise de pouvoir hostile, qui mettrait son emploi en danger.

Dans un village au Moyen-Orient, la population se prépare à des représailles américaines en préparant des abris de terre cuite. Personne n'appréhende vraiment ce qui s'est passé à New York, mais ils savent que, même s'ils n'ont rien à voir avec cela, ils vont en subir les conséquences. Le film dénonce la manière dont des villages innocents dont la réalité n'a rien à voir avec les attentats du 11 septembre subissent finalement le même sort que les tours, sans vraiment comprendre.

Manna From Heaven is a comedic fable about what happens when you get a gift from God (a financial windfall), but many years later you find out it was a just a loan and it's due immediately. The problem is, nobody wants to give back the money, nobody has the money, they don't know to whom it belongs, and most of them can't stand each other. Along the way, the characters learn about family, romance, reconciliation and redemption, and by working together they begin to realize their full potential.

Fifteen-year-old Sam Franks has returned from a Melbourne boarding school to his hometown in Victoria. He has an obvious affection towards a local girl, Silvy, who has a disability affecting her legs which requires a brace and prevents her from walking freely. This does not stop the two friends from enjoying each other's company, and they are virtually inseparable. Sam's mother has died, and his stern father provides the young boy with little comfort or love, so his relationship with Silvy is all that matters to him. She reads to him regularly out of her beloved poetry book, showing him a world of beauty and harmony within words that he comes to enjoy.
