The central character, Luke Benning (Nick Stahl), is a journalist investigating the possible mutilation (by Canadian snipers) of corpses in Afghanistan, a country that appears increasingly incomprehensible and surreal as Luke undergoes a series of bizarre adventures.
Synopsis
Disheartened when his story about Canadian snipers possibly mutilating corpses in Afghanistan is buried, Luke (Nick Stahl) quits his job but is even more determined to return to Afghanistan to get the real story. With his offbeat buddy, Tom (Nicolas Wright), tagging along, Luke returns to Afghanistan and intends to gather enough evidence to get his old story into print. But he soon finds that the country is an even more dangerous place than when he left. To make matters worse, his old friend and fixer, Mateen (Stephen Lobo) has been hired away by Luke's journalistic nemesis, Imran Sahar (Vik Sahay). Soon the trip for Luke and Tom in Afghanistan turns into a surreal and perilous adventure, a journey into an alternate reality, filtered through a haze of gun smoke. They encounter Taliban raids, bombings and unfinished business with an Afghanistan businessman. Luke still makes his way through the wilderness with Canadian troops and Arabian guides to find out if his story is true or not. In the end, he realises that the rumour about Canadians mutilating fingers is a lie and that his people still have some morality in this war torn land. Just as he is about to leave, He and Sgt. Rick (a Canadian soldier who is the leader of the squad with whom he had been travelling) come under fire from a Taliban sniper, but the Taliban runs out of bullets and walks off, while Luke thinks he killed him. While they move back to the base, Luke runs into Matteen, where he finds out that they really do share a friendship. The last scene is where Luke decides to go home.Actors

Kabul-based French journalist Elsa Casanova (Diane Kruger) writes an article about warlord Zaief (Raz Degan) and names him "the butcher of Kabul". Her informer Maina (Morjana Alaoui) warns her that Zaief is out for vengeance. Before she returns to Zaief, she bids farewell because she reckons to die by an honour killing. The widowed Eurasian doctor Han Suyin (Jones) falls in love with the married-but-separated American correspondent Mark Elliott (Holden) in Hong Kong, during the period of China's Civil War in the late 1940s. In a short prelude, U.S. Army General Hopgood (Stephen Lang) is painfully thwarted in an attempt to pass paranormally through a solid wall by simply running into it. In the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh during May 1973, the Cambodian national army is fighting a civil war with the Khmer Rouge, a result of the Vietnam War overspilling that country’s borders. Dith Pran, a Cambodian journalist and interpreter for The New York Times, awaits the arrival of reporter Sydney Schanberg at the city's airport but leaves suddenly. Au Nicaragua en 1979, le journaliste-photographe Russell Price couvre la guerre civile opposant les sandinistes au président Anastasio Somoza. Ses amis, le chef d'antenne Alex Grazier et la journaliste de la radio Claire, l'accompagnent. Au moment où ils arrivent, les sandinistes frappent même jusque dans la capitale, Managua. Au fil des jours, Russell en vient à se poser des questions sur la façon de couvrir cette guerre, lorsqu'il prend conscience de la brutalité de l'armée somoziste vis-à-vis de la population. Lui et Claire sont bientôt approchés par les sandinistes afin de photographier Rafael, leur leader, dont le gouvernement nicaraguayen vient d'annoncer la mort. Rafael est en réalité bel et bien mort, mais les guérilleros veulent démontrer, par une photographie, qu'il est toujours vivant afin de finir la guerre à leur avantage. Après quelques hésitations, Russell accepte et, le lendemain, la photo du chef sandiniste est diffusée dans tout le pays, ce qui déstabilise quelque peu le gouvernement Somoza. Le régime commence à se poser des questions sur la neutralité de la presse. Alex Grazier est bientôt arrêté puis abattu par la Guardia. Russell Price, qui a réussi à photographier l'assassinat, parvient à rendre publiques les photos et le gouvernement américain abandonne toute aide au régime somoziste. Les sandinistes entrent en vainqueurs à Managua et le dictateur fuit le pays.
