Former mobster Tony (Asif Ali) leads a quiet life with his wife, Neethu (Nithya Menon), and his newborn child in a nondescript villa, having turned over a new leaf. But vengeful underworld don Prakash Kamath (John Vijay) - whom Tony and friends once tried to assassinate - has dispatched a pair of his henchmen to cut that peaceful existence short. Once arrived, gangsters Ayyappan (Kalabhavan Mani) and Fakeer (Vinayakan) find a second pair-Benny (Rahman) and Geevarghese (Indrajith)- determined to protect Tony. After a brief showdown, the whole group comes to an uneasy truce, lay their weapons down and bond over dinner-after all, these men grew up together.

Mohanlal plays the double role of 75-year-old Suranadu Kunju and his son Papoyi. Kunju thinks that the heartbeat of earth is in soil and not in maths. Telugu actress Laya is the heroine in this film. His beliefs on the land and agrarianism is good but his value system that farmers and farming is more important and better is not. He does not let his sons pursue there interest and wants them to do farming also. Which leads in they becoming negative towards father. Also when he tries to marry off his daughter to an ugly but farming loving another narrow minded character instead of an educated handsome doctor makes them feel that the father is destroying and spoiling their lives with his stubbornness and high handedness.

Arjun (Jayam Ravi), an unemployed youngster and Deva (Rahul Dev) a powerful don both fall in love with Sailaja (Shriya), a middle-class beauty, at the same time on a rainy day at a railway station. Arjun keeps bumping into Sailaja coincidentally every time it rains. This makes them both feel that it is perhaps the rain that keeps bringing them together, and they start to fall in love. Deva, on the other hand, takes the back-door route to get the girl, with the help of her good-for-nothing father (Kalabhavan Mani). After learning of the Arjun and Sailaja's love, Deva and Sailaja's father work up devious plans to break them up. And finally they succeed in creating a rift between the two lovers. Though Arjun realizes what is really happening, Sailaja falls prey to the foils of the Deva and her father. The young lovers part ways; Sailaja becomes a leading lady in the movies and Arjun works with his uncle in a quarry as a demolition expert. Deva is cheated out of some money by Sailaja's father, and as revenge, he finds out where Sailaja now lives and kidnaps her from right under her parents' noses. Sailaja's father realizes that the only person who is daring enough and cares enough to get his daughter back is Arjun and goes to him with his pleas. It takes much convincing, but Arjun finally decides to rescue Sailaja but for reasons other than love.At this point Sailaja begins to realise that her father lied to her and tries to get back with Arjun but he refuses because she did not trust him. Soon somehow Sailaja convinces Arjun that it wasn't her fault and they both start loving again. The climax is a heroic fight between Arjun and Deva.
