Synopsis
Young Sicilian worker, Antonio Spagara, has been assigned by the Mafia to murder a nobleman, Marquis Macri. But at the last minute Antonio pulls out and instead of killing the father, he flees to Palermo with Grazia, his daughter. Life there in the city is difficult, as the young man must confront his father and his despotic sister Dorotea. The Mafia also is not going to tolerate Antonio's desertion.Actors

Sicile, 1961. L'officier Bellodi, des Carabiniers doit mener une enquête sur le meurtre de Salvatore Colasberna, un chef d'entreprise de bâtiments assassiné pour avoir refusé de confier un chantier à une entreprise protégée par la mafia. Le meurtre s'est produit près de l'habitation de Rosa Nicolosi, de son mari et de leur petite fille. Le capitaine Bellodi parvient à arracher à Rosa l'aveu que son mari lui a confié avoir vu le long de la route, le jour du crime, un certain « Zecchinetta », nom qui est confirmé par un informateur de la police, « Parrinieddu ». Entre-temps, le boss (chef, capo en italien) local de la mafia, Don Mariano Arena, cherche à déguiser le meurtre de Colasberna en crime passionnel et fait remonter les pistes vers Nicolosi : il a tué le chef d'entreprise en tant qu'amant de sa femme. Le capitaine ne croit pas à cette version et cherche le corps de Nicolosi, dont il pense qu'il a été tué comme témoin gênant ; de corps, il ne trouvera que celui de « Parrinieddu », tué parce que compromis. L'enquête aboutit à l'arrestation de Don Mariano mais, grâce à ses accointances politiques, il est libéré et Bellodi est transféré.

Naples, à la fin du XIXe siècle. Après un séjour en prison, le jeune Nicola Bellizzi s'installe dans un quartier misérable de la ville contrôlée par la Camorra. Son rêve est de changer complètement de vie pour devenir avocat. Il y rencontre le chef mafieux du quartier Don Gaetano, une brute proche de la mafia. Brian Sweeney "Fitzcarraldo" Fitzgerald (Klaus Kinski) is an Irishman living in Iquitos, a small city east of the Andes in the Amazon Basin in Peru in the early part of the 20th century, when the city grew exponentially during the rubber boom. He has an indomitable spirit, but is little more than a dreamer with one major failure already behind him – the bankrupted and incomplete Trans-Andean railways. A lover of opera and a great fan of the internationally known Italian tenor Enrico Caruso, he dreams of building an opera house in Iquitos. Numerous Europeans and North African Sephardic Jewish immigrants have settled in the city at this time, bringing their cultures with them. The opera house will require considerable amounts of money, which the booming rubber industry in Peru should yield in profits. Sicily, 1860.
