Synopsis
Napoleone (Castelnuovo) is an artist bored of his married life and applies to work as a gardener at a summer mansion. On his way to Elba, he meets an attractive teenage girl (Guida) who attempts to seduce him and when he gets to the mansion, he learns that she is Paola, his employers' daughter living with her mother (Anita Sanders) and stepfather (Silvio Amadio). The mother is soon attracted to Napoleone but he has a growing affection for Paola, fuelled by her flirtatious behaviour and his passion eventually turns into violence against a mentally disturbed fisherman (Mimmo Palmara) courting Paola.Actors

Une jeune femme marchant le long d'une route de campagne est menacée, puis agressée par des motards qui tournent en rond. Un homme soigné dans un trench-coat regarde. Plus tard, elle est confiée à des religieuses dans ce qui semble être une école de filles, où nous découvrons qu'elle s'appelle Valeria. Elle subit un examen médical au cours duquel sa vision se trouble. Elle aime le jeune docteur et ils s'embrassent. Pendant qu'elles s'embrassent, les autres écolières font irruption dans la pièce. Ils soumettent le médecin, à son grand amusement, et lui arrachent ses vêtements. Ils lui font quelque chose apparemment très douloureux en utilisant une paire de forceps. Le même gentleman soigné et en trench-coat réapparaît. Tout cela n'était peut-être qu'un rêve éveillé.

Angelo Donnini and his younger brother Gino are of Italian origin, living in Australia in the 1950s. Angelo is insecure, silent and introverted and not at all good-looking, while Gino is the complete opposite: outgoing, funny and handsome. Angelo looks for a wife and writes letters to Italian girls in hope of a match. But his letters are always returned with his photograph. One day, he desperately sends a new letter with a picture of his brother to Rosetta, who falls in love instantly with the man in the picture and therefore accepts his marriage proposal. When she arrives in Australia she is of course appalled that Angelo does not look like the man she thought she had married. However, she stays, to try to gain Gino's affections. But Gino has a girlfriend, Connie, a wise and tough girl who knows exactly what she wants. She loves Gino, but wishes he possessed more of Angelo's qualities. Though Gino tries to avoid Rosetta, he cannot help but eventually fall in love with her. Gino and Connie have an argument and they call it quits, and Angelo and Connie start to develop a romance. In the end, Rosetta, believing that she has failed to gain Gino's affections, decides to return to Italy with the help of Father Alfredo. Gino follows her onto the ship and they embrace. The couple then marry. In the final scene of the film, which seems to be few years later, it shows the wedding party of Connie and Angelo, while Gino is married to Rosetta and they have a newborn baby.

The film tells the story of Aiko, a 35-year-old mute woman who works in a bowling alley, and her brief romance with Yoshioka, a younger man who works as a postal carrier. The two meet when Aiko accidentally knocks Yoshioka off his bicycle, and they have a sexual encounter soon after. Aiko begins preparing lunchboxes and giving them to Yoshioka at his workplace as a way of expressing affection, which she cannot do verbally. The film ends in tragedy after Yoshioka leaves Aiko.
