Ringo, a bounty hunter, has killed the father of Glenn Garvin (Glenn Saxson) to collect a bounty. Glenn kills Ringo and then takes his father's body to town to collect the bounty himself. There he befriends Gordon (Fernando Sancho in city clothes and a bowler hat instead of his usual Mexican bandit outfit), who tells Glenn that he stands to inherit half of everything in town, which his father had owned in partnership with Ken Cluster.

Au Mexique, Ringo et Frank font du trafic d'armes. Mais suite à une bagarre, ils décident de se séparer. Quelques années plus tard, Ringo a renoncé à sa vie aventureuse, s'est marié puis est devenu le shérif de Stone City. Lorsque la ville voisine est ravagée par une bande de voyous, Ringo s'y rend pour y mettre de l'ordre mais est gravement blessé à la tête lors d'une attaque, ce qui le rend partiellement aveugle. Il est ramené chez lui par le chef de la bande qui n'est autre que Frank. Ce dernier est nommé nouveau shérif par Daniels, un banquier véreux, ancien rival dans le trafic. Daniels tue la mère de Ringo et kidnappe la femme et le fils de celui-ci. Recouvrant la vue, Ringo fait semblant d'être aveugle pour assouvir sa vengeance.
A young rancher, swindled in a cattle deal, kills a rancher, in self-defense, who has accused him of stealing his cattle. He then gets caught up in adventure and romance as he tries to prove his innocence and clear his name.
The Man with No Name—"Monco"/"Manco"— and Colonel Douglas Mortimer—the "Man in Black"—are two bounty hunters in pursuit of "El Indio," one of the most wanted fugitives in the Wild West, and his gang. El Indio is ruthless, clever, and brutal. He has a musical pocketwatch that he plays before engaging in gun duels: "When the chimes finish, begin," he says. Flashbacks reveal that El Indio took the watch from a young woman whom El Indio found with her lover (in Joe Millard's novelization of the film, her newly wed husband), killed him, and raped her; she killed herself while being raped. There is a photograph of the woman inside the cover of the watch; it was a gift from her lover (in the novelization, it was a wedding gift from her brother).

A stranger arrives at the little Mexican border town of San Miguel. Silvanito, the town's innkeeper, tells the Stranger about a feud between two families vying to gain control of the town: on the one side, the Rojo brothers: Don Miguel, Esteban and Ramón; on the other, the family of the town sheriff, John Baxter. The Stranger decides to play each family against the other in order to make money, and proves his speed and accuracy with his gun to both sides by shooting the four men who teased him as he entered town with ease.
At an isolated coaching station in the Arizona desert, Steve Loman is approached by some outlaw friends. They tell him that a stagecoach containing the corrupt Judge Driscoll, his bride to be Ruth, her young brother Jimmy and a card sharp are heading for the station with a large amount of money. As the Apaches led by Geronimo are on the warpath, it would be too easy for Loman to revenge himself on Driscoll who sent Loman to prison on a false charge that also ruined his army career and split the money with the outlaws and travel to Mexico. Loman refuses.
