Jo loves to draw, and she is good enough at it to win a scholarship. She goes to the city from her small town to study at a special art school, where more than anything else, she hopes to learn to paint like her hero, Vincent van Gogh. While sketching faces one day, she encounters a mysterious European art dealer who buys a few of her drawings, and commissions her to do some more. He rewards her handsomely for her work, and goes back to Amsterdam. Not long after, Jo is shown a magazine story about the "discovery" and million dollar sale of some of the drawings of young Vincent van Gogh, drawings only she and her friend, Felix, know are hers. The only thing to do is for Jo and friends to get to Amsterdam and find the mystery man. Or better still, go right to the source and speak to Vincent himself in 19th century Arles.

Le duo d'humoristes Ding et Dong tente sans succès de gagner sa vie grâce à son humour. L'amitié qui unit les deux humoristes sera menacée par la direction que chacun veut donner à sa carrière respective; Ding veut s'orienter vers le théâtre de répertoire, influencé par une amie, et Dong semble déterminé à vouloir rester humoriste absurde, guidé par son nouvel agent.

Archangel is set in 1919 in the northern Russian area of Archangel, during a brief historical moment of Canadian intervention in the Bolshevik Revolution following the end of World War I. One-legged Canadian soldier Lt. John Boles sighs on the rail of a steamship over the ashes of his dead lover Iris. An officer mistakes Iris' urn for a bottle of liquor and throws it overboard into the sea. A narrator then delivers a sermon on the glories of Love and the horrors of Self-Love/Pride and how it forms the roots of War. (Maddin's daughter Jilian makes a cameo here as a young Cossack girl who orders the execution of a young boy.

Le curé d'un sanctuaire et d'un lieu de pèlerinage (qui n'est pas nommé mais ressemble fortement à l'Oratoire Saint-Joseph) engage le jeune comédien Daniel, nouvellement de retour à Montréal, afin de monter une version rafraîchie de la Passion du Christ dans les jardins de ce lieu de culte. Ce dernier réunira une petite troupe de comédiens et en fera une interprétation libre, grandiose et sensible. Lors d'une représentation, des forces de l'ordre interviennent et la lourde croix tombe sur lui. Daniel est transporté en ambulance à «l'Hôpital St.-Marc», un endroit bondé et impitoyable, mais n'y reçoit aucun soin. Il quitte l'hôpital en état de choc et descend dans le métro. Inquiets, deux condisciples l'accompagnent... Daniel, en train de mourir, tient un dernier discours sur l'amour humain qui reste si inaccessible aux gens et qui finit par les tuer: «C'est le manque d'amour qui tue les gens», dit-il. Daniel perd encore connaissance dans le métro. Il est reçu avec humanité et professionnalisme à l'hôpital juif, mais il est trop tard. Ses condisciples donnent «son corps» aux fins de la transplantation. Hautement symbolique, un homme reçoit le cœur et une femme les yeux.

At the dinner table, conflicts soon arise when Dominique reveals that she herself has had affairs with two of the men there, one of whom is married to Louise (also present).

Un serveur de brasserie décide de prendre des vacances en solitaire dans la forêt. Des hommes de la place, désœuvrés, tenteront d'abord de l'intimider et l'agresseront par la suite. Un indien viendra lui sauver la mise. Une confrontation ultérieure entre ces 5 protoganistes tournera mal. Affolés, le serveur et l'indien s'enfuieront afin de rejoindre la famille de ce dernier. Malheureusement, celui-ci se noie. Le serveur se retrouve seul chez la famille de son bienfaiteur pour annoncer la mauvaise nouvelle. Le père de l'indien demande à sa fille d'amener le serveur au camp de chasse familial le temps que les choses se calment au village. Décontenancé, celui-ci est réticent et montre son désaccord de toutes les façons possibles. Peu à peu, le fugitif s'ouvrira à ses émotions et à son environnement paisible pour définir son être profond. Finalement, il s'acceptera tel qu'il est et il acceptera également la situation dans laquelle il s'est embourbé. C'est un être humain plus intégré qui décidera de son avenir en toute conscience.

Michael Baskin is an average 11-year-old boy. His father, Billy Baskin, is a struggling artist and temporary sole caregiver of the children while his wife attends to the needs of her recently deceased father in Australia. Upon hearing the news that an abandoned mansion has recently burned down, Michael and his friend Connie decide to explore the remains. Outside the mansion, Connie dares Michael to take a look inside, leading to a frightening encounter with the ghosts of its homeless inhabitants who had died in the fire. Michael does not know this yet, but his fearsome run in with the ghosts has given him a mysterious illness simply known as "The Fright". Michael wakes up the next morning to find out that "The Fright" has made him lose all of his hair. After a failed attempt with a wig (his wig was pulled off by an older boy during a fight in a soccer game), the ghosts visit Michael in his sleep and give him the recipe of a magical formula for hair growth, the main ingredient of which is peanut butter. Michael's first attempt to make the formula is thwarted when his father and sister think he is making something to ingest (rather than use topically) and dispose of it.
