Depressed after being abandoned by her young lover, affluent Helene (Annie Giradot) heads off to a health clinic on the coast. The treatments by Dr. Devilers (Alain Delon) make her and the other guests feel better, and for a while that is enough. However, Helene stumbles upon the resort's dark secret: the patients rejuvenation comes at the expense of Portuguese youths, who arrive at the clinic to work in the gardens and are never seen again.

Un riche polonais envoie quatre compatriotes munis de visas touristiques pour retaper sa maison londonienne. Ce qui est une bonne affaire pour tout le monde. After opening with a brief, seemingly irrelevant scene of a suitcase on an airport carousel, the story quickly focuses on a Paris divorce court where Karol Karol (Zbigniew Zamachowski) is pleading with the judge — the same legal proceedings that Juliette Binoche's character briefly stumbled upon in Blue. The immigrant Karol, despite his difficulty in understanding French, is made to understand that his wife Dominique (Julie Delpy) does not love him. The grounds for divorce are humiliating: Karol was unable to consummate the marriage. Along with his wife, he loses his means of support (a beauty salon they jointly owned), his legal residency in France, and the rest of his cash in a series of mishaps, and is soon a beggar. He only retains a 2 franc coin.

Julie (Juliette Binoche), wife of the famous composer Patrice de Courcy, must cope with the death of her husband and daughter in an automobile accident she herself survives. While recovering in the hospital, Julie attempts suicide by overdose, but cannot swallow the pills. After being released from the hospital, Julie, who it is suggested wrote (or helped to write) much of her husband's famous pieces, destroys what is left behind of them, finishes an affair she has been having during her marriage, and closes up the house she lived in with her family. She takes an apartment in Paris without telling anyone, leaving behind all her clothes and possessions, and taking only a chandelier of blue beads that the viewer assumes belonged to her daughter.

Abbas Mahadjir était professeur de français en République centrafricaine. Il a fui avec sa famille l'une des guerres civiles qui ont frappé son pays. Il est hanté par le souvenir de sa femme, tuée au cours de leur fuite. Il vit désormais en France avec ses deux jeunes enfants, Asma et Yacine, qui sont scolarisés. Il travaille sur les marchés où il a rencontré Carole, une fleuriste d'origine polonaise avec qui il a noué une relation. Quand sa demande de statut de réfugié au nom du droit d'asile est rejetée par l'OFPRA, il engage un recours. Lorsque celui-ci est à son tour rejeté, il se voit signifier une obligation de quitter le territoire français. Au bout des 30 jours réglementaires, n'ayant pas déposé de recours auprès du président du tribunal administratif, désormais sans travail, sans logement, « sans papier », il trouve refuge chez Carole avec ses enfants. Quand la police convoque Carole au commissariat et l'informe des peines encourues pour l'aide au séjour des étrangers en situation irrégulière, il préfère prendre la fuite avec ses enfants sans laisser d'adresse. Carole tente en vain de retrouver leur trace dans la jungle de Calais, démantelée quelques heures plus tôt.
