Patricia Burke (23 March 1917 – 23 November 2003), was an English singer and actress in cinema, stage and TV. She was the daughter of actress Marie Burke and actor Tom Burke.

Patricia Burke's most well known films were Lisbon Story (1946) and The Trojan Brothers (1946), and a star role the 1949 TV production of Elizabeth of Ladymead. She appeared in several episodes of the TV series The Adventures of Robin Hood between 1955 and 1958. In 1947-1948 she acted in productions of Shakespeare and Shaw at the Old Vic. In 1957 she acted in a production of Aristophanes' Lysistrata at the Royal Court Theatre. Between 1958 and 1972 she played the part of Jimmy Clitheroe's mother in the BBC Radio Series The Clitheroe Kid.

The film was inspired by an actual incident: a B-52G Stratofortress collided with a KC-135 Stratotanker over Palomares, Spain on January 17, 1966, and four B-28 FI 1.45-megaton-range nuclear bombs aboard the B-52 were briefly lost. This thriller is set in Blackpool, where trained chemist Jim Harding (Douglass Montgomery) has been reduced to making a living peddling potions and medicines from a fairground stall with a former army colleague Dan Collins (Ronald Shiner). Trapped in a loveless marriage with the vulgar, shrewish and domineering harpy Diana (Patricia Burke), a woman who harbours ambitions of breaking into showbusiness, Jim finds himself attracted to the kinder working-class Jane Thompson (Hazel Court), who sells candyfloss and ice cream at an adjacent stall on the fairground. Jim does not reveal to Jane that he is married as the two fall in love and begin an affair. Diana meanwhile is engaged in a liaison of her own with the older Jerry Burns (Garry Marsh), who she believes will be able to help with her theatrical aspirations.

In 1922 in Cornwall, a prodigious young pianist and composer Olwen Trevelyan (Audrey Fildes) is struggling with the ending of a piano tone poem she is composing. Driven to complete the piece by her domineering elder sister Julia (Sonia Dresdel), Olwen becomes agitated and despondent, and one night sleepwalks to the edge of a cliff near their home. Julia follows her and shouts her name but Olwen, abruptly awakened, loses her balance and falls to her death on the rocks below. Julia is unable to come to terms with Olwen's death and the guilt of her own role in it, over the years becoming a reclusive, obsessive figure whose main raison d'être is to keep Olwen's memory alive. Olwen's final composition gains her posthumous recognition, and each year on the anniversary of her death it is broadcast on the radio.
