Robert Schwentke (born 1968) is a German film director best known for the films Tattoo and Flightplan.
Robert Schwentke graduated from Los Angeles film school, Columbia College Hollywood (CCH), in 1992.
He directed two feature films in Germany, the thriller Tattoo and the comedy Eierdiebe, the latter a semi-autobiographical film about a man being treated for testicular cancer, a disease he had been diagnosed with and survived himself in 1995.
Schwentke directed 2009's The Time Traveler's Wife, based on the best-selling novel, and starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.
In 2008 Summit Entertainment optioned Red, the 2003 graphic novel thriller by writer Warren Ellis and artist Cully Hamner, as a feature film. Schwentke directed the film, RED, from a script by Whiteout screenwriters Erich and Jon Hoeber, and the adaptation was produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian of Transformers. Principal photography began in January 2010 in Toronto and Louisiana with stars Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman.
Schwentke directed the action-comedy crime film R.I.P.D., based on the comic book Rest in Peace Department by Peter M. Lenkov. The film starred Ryan Reynolds as Nick Walker and Jeff Bridges as Bo. R.I.P.D. was released on July 19, 2013 in the United States by Universal Pictures.

Après Hors du temps avec Eric Bana et Rachel McAdams, il est choisi pour Red (2011), adaptation d'une bande dessinée sur grand écran, avec des poids lourds comme Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich et Helen Mirren. Cette lucrative comédie d'action est suivie d'une autre adaptation d'un comic book, RIPD : Brigade fantôme, cette fois portée par le tandem Ryan Reynolds-Jeff Bridges.
Il met ensuite en scène deux volets de la saga Divergente : Divergente 2 : L'Insurrection (2015) et Divergente 3 : Au-delà du mur (2016). Fatigué par les tournages successifs de ces deux blockbusters, il cède sa place à Lee Toland Krieger pour le quatrième et dernier film de la franchise.

The story begins five days after the assault on the Abnegation faction by Erudite leader Jeanine's mind-controlled Dauntless soldiers. Dauntless leader Eric and his platoon search through the wreckage of Abnegation for a box of unknown origin that contains the symbols for each faction. They recover the box and take it to Erudite. Jeanine claims it contains data from the city's founders and the means to end the Divergence problem–the issue of individuals having the qualities of multiple factions. Only a Divergent can open the box, so she orders all Divergents hunted down and captured.

Boston Police Department officers Detective Sergeant Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) and Detective Lieutenant Bobby Hayes (Kevin Bacon) discover and steal several shards of gold while on duty. Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster), a U.S. aircraft engineer employed in Berlin, Germany, is widowed with a six-year-old daughter Julia (Marlene Lawston) after her husband David (John Benjamin Hickey) falls off the roof of their building to his death. Kyle decides to bury him in their hometown back in the U.S., on Long Island, NY. They fly aboard a passenger aircraft, the engines of which Kyle helped design.
