Roma Downey (born 6 May 1960) is an Emmy-nominated actress and producer best known for her nine seasons as the tender-hearted angel on the hit CBS television show Touched by an Angel, for which she earned multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Best Actress nominations. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, and classically trained in London, Downey has performed on stage with the famed Abbey Theatre and has appeared both on and off Broadway. She played the leading role of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis in the Emmy award winning miniseries for NBC, A Woman Named Jackie. Downey starred in and was also executive producer for seven television movies for the CBS network. Downey is an ambassador for Operation Smile.
As President of Lightworkers Media, a United Artists Media Group banner, Downey together with her husband Mark Burnett produced the Emmy-nominated mini series, The Bible for History channel which was watched by over 100 million people in the US alone. Downey and Burnett have also produced Son of God a feature film. Variety recognized Downey and Burnett as "Trailblazers" and listed Downey as one of Variety’s "100 Most Powerful Women in Hollywood." The Hollywood Reporter included the couple in their "Most Influential People of 2013" and Downey as one of the "100 Women in Entertainment Power" in 2014. Downey won the 2014 "Movie Guide Grace Award" for her role as Mary. Downey was also honored on "Variety’s Women of Impact in 2014." Together, Downey and Burnett have recently produced The Women of the Bible for Lifetime, The Dovekeepers for CBS and A.D.: The Bible Continues. Their upcoming series, Answered Prayers premieres on TLC on July 26. The couple is also producing the epic feature film Ben-Hur, a reimagining of the classic story with MGM and Paramount, set to release in Spring 2016.
Downey is a "Smile Ambassador" for the non-profit organization Operation Smile which provides surgeries for children around the world who were born with severe cleft lip and palate.
She supported the unsuccessful candidacy of Martin McGuinness for President of Ireland in 2011. Downey received the Sally Award by the Salvation Army for her contribution to entertainment and helping those in need on 1 October 2015.
Downey was raised, and remains, a Roman Catholic.
On 18 April 2009, Downey and Burnett delivered the keynote address and accepted an honorary doctorate of law at Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management commencement ceremony.

She is married to television producer/entrepreneur Mark Burnett. She has three children, two step-sons James Burnett and Cameron Burnett and her daughter Reilly Marie Downey Anspaugh (born on 3 June 1996) from her previous marriage to director David Anspaugh. Reilly is named after her grandmother, Maureen O'Reilly Downey. On Thanksgiving Day 2006, Burnett proposed to Downey during a family vacation in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. They wed on 28 April 2007 in their Malibu home. The story is about Alec McCall (Matthew Modine), a spy, who teams up with Clements, a chimp, to save the day. He has a change of heart when his boss, Flick, turns out to be bad and wants to perform experiments on the chimp. These experiments are to create chimp soldiers for the highest bidder. McCall takes Clements away on the run to his hometown where they meet a genius boy named Michael (Seth Adkins). Michael wants to impress a girl by playing on the football team. The coach (Jeffrey Tambor) allows him on the team only if he tutors the star players who are on the brink of being kicked off due to bad grades. Meanwhile Flick sends his goons out to find the chimp. Michael's single mom, a computer programmer, has her eye on McCall who rents out a room from her. She does not know about Clements, but Michael does. After the goons fail to get the chimp, Flick goes to get Clements himself by breaking in gassed Clements and Michael. Flick takes them back to his headquarters so the doctor (Gilbert Gottfried) can perform his experiments. McCall rescues them and they head back for the Homecoming football game. Michael hopes to play in order to impress the cheerleader he likes. Soon the bad guys show up and dress as football players to play in the game and get Clements. Clements and McCall join the team to stop Flick from winning. Michael wins the game and Flick is arrested for animal cruelty. Michael gets the girl and McCall gets Michael's mom. The movie ends with hope for the future.

The story centers on a 7-year-old boy, Pepper Flynt Busbee (Jakob Salvati), who is devastated when his father enlists in the army during World War II. The title is a reference to Little Boy, the code name for the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima as well as a reference to Pepper's height. Pepper has an extremely close relationship with his loving father. It begins from the very moment he is born when his father cradles him in his arms and mentions how small he is. When Pepper is examined by a doctor the physician is asked if the child is a midget. However, the doctor says that the term is offensive and suggests that he is just a "little boy." However, when World War II begins, Pepper's older brother is declared ineligible for military service because of flat feet and his father joins in his place. Not long after his father leaves for war, Pepper hears the Bible verse, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move" (Mt. 17:20), he becomes determined to get enough faith to bring his father home. Nevertheless, as his friend and mentor Father Oliver tells him, faith is useless to anyone who harbors hatred. The film highlights the tremendous hatred against Japanese-Americans that was rampant in America at this time. Father Oliver tells Pepper to befriend a Japanese man named Hashimoto. At first, the racism Pepper has internalized from society makes him hesitant to follow this advice, but as he gets to know Hashimoto, he begins to value their friendship and learns from Hashimoto to stand up to those who bully him about his height. The plot then takes a turn when Pepper's father is reported missing in action. Pepper's mother (Emily Watson) struggles to keep her family together in the face of these overwhelming hardships.
