British Captain and novelist Edgar Brodie (Gielgud) returns home on leave during the First World War, only to discover his obituary in the newspaper. He is brought to a man identifying himself only as "R", who asks him to undertake a secret mission: to identify and eliminate a German agent on his way to Arabia to stir up trouble in the Middle East. Upon agreeing, Brodie is given a new identity (Richard Ashenden), a fake death, and the assistance of a killer known variously as "the Hairless Mexican" and "the General" (Lorre), though he is neither bald, Mexican or a general.

Minnie Mouse is getting the picnic things ready for a picnic. And Mickey Mouse is by his car, getting the picnic things ready for his girlfriend, Minnie Mouse as they are having a picnic together, just the two of them. But then, a sleek sports car rushes by and stops. Mortimer Mouse is one of Minnie's old friends who is also known as Mickey's rival. He backs up and crashes his car into Mickey's car, pushing it into a tree. Mortimer starts to make fun of his short rival making Mickey berserk. He takes two of his buttons from his shorts off. One button is hidden in Mickey's hand whilst the other button is thrown away. Mickey furiously tries to grab Mortimer's buttons from his long trousers, but they electrocute him making him even more berserk.

Ace report Steve Haines is on the trail of Edward Baldwin, the former head of a public utilities company that has bankrupted and defrauded its investors out of their life savings. Haines trails Baldwin to an ocean liner where he is planning to flee to Europe. During the voyage Haines is impressed by the company on the ship, including a famous actor and his singing daughter and a gangster. Haines organises a pantomime melodrama to entertain the passengers using his new acquaitances and convinces Baldwin to take a role playing a man who is murdered. Prior to going on the stage the prop revolver is replaced with a real one.

Housemates Mickey and Donald are six months overdue on their rent payments. As they worriedly pace the floor, a sheriff bangs on the door and punches Mickey when he goes to answer. The sheriff, played by Pete, serves them a "Notice to Dispossess" authorizing him not only to evict them, but to sell off their belongings as collateral. He menacingly strikes a match on Donald's bill to light his cigar and leaves. The cigar is thrown into Donald's mouth like he is a trash can, after which he spits it out and squawks angrily at Pete.
