MK2 est une société de production, de distribution et ventes internationales de films, et d’exploitation de salles de cinémas, fondée en 1974 par Marin Karmitz, aujourd’hui dirigée par ses fils Nathanaël Karmitz et Elisha Karmitz.

Le réseau de cinémas MK2 est présent à Paris depuis 1974, avec dix cinémas et soixante-cinq écrans et dans le Sud de l’Espagne depuis 2014, après le rachat du réseau Cinesur (neuf cinémas). MK2 exploite un catalogue de six cents films, parmi lesquels des œuvres produites, coproduites ou distribuées de réalisateurs tels que Charlie Chaplin, Claude Chabrol, François Truffaut, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Abbas Kiarostami, ou encore Xavier Dolan.

Pour le lancement d'un film d'un vieux réalisateur, une version pour malvoyants est en préparation. Une jeune femme teste son commentaire écrit sur un groupe d'une dizaine d'aveugles, dont un photographe réputé, ancien voyant en train de perdre totalement la vue et la possibilité d'exercer son art. Objectivité, subjectivité, description, direction, suggestion, trahison : autant d'enjeux pour les participants pour améliorer la force du commentaire sur les scènes clés, sur lesquels l'implication et les émotions de chacun vont se focaliser, et se mêler aux bagages personnels, particulièrement ceux de la rédactrice et du photographe entre lesquels une relation s'ébauche. Dans la dernière scène du film à commenter, le vieil homme peine à gravir une petite dune, en haut de laquelle il s'arrête face au soleil couchant.

The film begins by introducing Laurence (Melvil Poupaud), a 30-year-old man, who is an award-winning novelist and literature teacher in Montréal. Laurence is very much in love with her girlfriend, the fiery and passionate Fred (Suzanne Clément). On the day of her birthday, she reveals to Fred her biggest secret; she has felt for her entire life that she was born in the wrong body and says that she has been living a lie for so many years. She wishes to rectify her situation and restart her life as a woman. Fred accuses her of being gay and takes the news very hard. They separate for a short time, but Frédérique arrives at the conclusion, much to the chagrin of her mother and sister, that she must be there for Laurence. Their romance resumes and Frédérique becomes Laurence's biggest supporter. Frederique teaches Laurence how to do her makeup and buys her a wig. She urges Laurence to dress as her true self, in female clothing. Laurence shows up to work one day in a dress. All seemingly goes well until she is released from her position at the school due to the negative reception of her transformation. Fred falls into a state of depression and eventually leaves Laurence and moves away. Frederique marries another man, Albert, and has a son named Leo.

Alex (Gabe Nevins), a 16-year-old skateboarder, rides a freight train clandestinely with a man named Scratch (Scott Patrick Green) whom he has just met at the Eastside Skatepark, known as "Paranoid Park". While the train is moving a security guard (John Burrowes) notices the pair, chases after them, and tries to get them off by hitting Scratch with his flashlight. During the melee, Alex hits him with his skateboard and the guard, losing balance, falls onto another track into the path of an oncoming freight train which cuts him in half. Alex tries to destroy some of the evidence. For example, he throws his skateboard into the Willamette River from the Steel Bridge, and when he arrives at his friend Jared's (Jake Miller) house, he showers and disposes of the clothes he had been wearing.
