Originally released in 1997, the series is a pastiche of the American television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the first Power Rangers series, and, by extension, the Japanese Super Sentai series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, which formed the basis for Mighty Morphin.
Programmes from the two franchises had been broadcast, dubbed into Filipino or Tagalog, along with various other tokusatsu programmes, in the Philippines since the late 70s. The various series were popular enough to spawn imitators and pastiches, including Super Ranger Kids. The key difference between Kids and its inspiration is that the primary hero characters are ten to twelve years old as opposed to teenagers or young adults. However, the influence from Power Rangers is obvious even in the logo, with the use of a similar font and the distinctive "lightning bolt" design.

On a distant planet, a wizard named Lerigot is being hunted by Divatox; an intergalactic space pirate, who seeks his golden key in order to traverse an inter-dimensional gateway and enter into matrimony with Maligore, a demon who promises to grant her great riches and power. Lerigot escapes Divatox's forces and travels to Earth in search of Zordon and his friend Alpha 5, but lands in Africa instead. Advertising company staff Mo Tak-fai and his friend Lai Chi are going to mainland China for a business trip during which Chi smuggled some relics which leads them being chased by the police and they strayed into a cave. Chi was bitten by a poisonous snake in the cave but was saved by medicine from hero Lung Kim-fei from centuries ago and shares it with Tak-fai. Not only does the medicine detoxifies Chi, it also gave Tak-fai and Chi internal strengths. There, they also rescue Princess Wan-lo and her maid Siu-man who were frozen for eight hundred years from the Yuan Dynasty while also allowing two-hundred-year-old evil martial arts expert Tin-chan escape.

Eddie Yang (Jackie Chan) is a Hong Kong police officer cooperating with Interpol in the capture of a crime lord named AJ "Snakehead" Staul (Julian Sands). Snakehead procures an ancient book from a Chinese bookstore keeper, which tells the story of a boy being chosen every thousand years to bind the two halves of a legendary medallion. In Hong Kong, Eddie and Interpol agent Arthur Watson (Lee Evans) lead a raid to capture Snakehead and his men, who are about to kidnap the boy, named Jai (Alex Bao). Eddie and the agents fight off Snakehead's men, infiltrating the temple containing Jai. Jai is saved but Snakehead eludes them. Two weeks later Snakehead captures Jai aboard a cargo boat in Hong Kong. Eddie and a team of Hong Kong police engage and defeat several of Snakehead's men, but Snakehead escapes with Jai to Dublin, Ireland.

During the Qin dynasty, the general Meng Yi is tasked with escorting Ok-Soo, a Korean princess, back to China to marry the Qin emperor. Along the journey, a Korean warrior attempts to seize her back but Meng Yi saves her. Ok-soo falls in love with Meng Yi and displays her affections for him openly, but Meng honourably rejects her and successfully completes his mission. The Qin emperor becomes critically ill later and he sends Meng Yi to find the elixir of immortality, the only thing that can save his life. The guards escorting the elixir are ambushed by rebels on the orders of the treacherous prince and chancellor. Meng Yi hands over the elixir to his deputy, Nangong Yan, before dying in the ensuing battle. Although Nangong Yan manages to bring the elixir to the emperor, the prince and chancellor wanted Nangong Yan and Ok-soo to test the validity of the elixir and force them to consume the elixir, condemning them to imprisonment in the Qin emperor's mausoleum for eternity.
